Summary: A great place to find art
Review: Like I said, its a great book but not the best art book ever. I would recommend it to any art, sci-fi, and fanatasy fans. Love the picture of Lara Croft from Tombraider ;)

Summary: A wonderfully rich compilation
Review: This book is full of great artwork. Not just paintings, but sculptures as well. Some of the work was familiar to me though most of it was new. It's great for letting your imagination take you places as you peruse the pages. Buy it now!

Summary: neoclassical
Review: This book is the single best contemporary art book in existence. The term Neoclassical cannot do it justice and could not really apply because these works are so underappreciated. The sheer variety of artwork ensures that there is something for every taste and always something more to discover in it. If you like art or fantasy or sci fi, or pretty colors, BUY THIS BOOK.

Summary: A wonderfully rich compilation
Review: This compilation of work features quite a few of the outstanding work produced during 1997 for various sci-fi and fantasy work. The work is broken down into several categories, such as 'editorial', 'comics', 'dimensional', & 'unpublished'. A panel of distinguished artists select a gold medal and silver medal winner for each category, though as a whole, much of the submitted work is top rate. Though one might wish that there were more information about the artists themselves, the artwork is enough to keep you looking several times over to see the work you missed - and there is plenty of stuff to miss with each pass. The book's packaging and presentation is impeccable, using high-grade glossy paper, well hued inking, and a solid binding. This could be a coffee table book if you wished it - that is, if you're not busy looking through it yourself.

Summary: A great book, but what's with all the dragons?
Review: Woo Hoo! The new Spectrum collection is out! You have no idea how thrilled I was to receive this book in the mail from amazon.com. My heartbeat and breath literally quickened as I flipped the pages, revealing every fantastic image. I would consider this book the equal of the previous collection, but with a few differences. First of all, there are no absolute stinkers in this book. There were only three in Spectrum 4, and two by the same artist, but they were very distracting. I'm sure some of you know the paintings I mean. Gun-toting T-rex and monster-stuffed house. This book is stinker-free. But there are also fewer great works, like "Prudence II" or "Number 16" or "Wintermute." Sure, this book has Thom Ang's "Can We Find A Cure for Heart Disease?" and Brom's "Seeker," but there are few more truly exceptional works. Also, there are *way* too many paintings of dragons, and bare-breasted women. Yes, I know this is a collection of fantastic art, but c'mon. Entire pages are dominated by bare-breasted Amazons, or fire-breathing dragons. After the originality of Spectrum 4, this seemed a little generic to me. All in all, this book is an outstanding collection of fantastic artwork, and I am proud to own it. I hope Spectrum 5 garners a Hugo nomination this year.
