Rating: Summary: Fantasy Art that is absolutely stunning! Review: I am a collector of SiFi-Fantasy art. I will state categorically, Frank Frazetta is the finest Fantasy/SiFi illustrator that has ever lived, bar none! Unlike modern artists, who work with air brush, Frazetta's best work is done in oils. The quality of his oil paintings are on a par with the great masters and deserve to be hung next to the likes Rembrandt van Rijn. His compositions are always emotionally stimulating, intriguing, and beautiful. Frazetta has the unique talent to tell a fantastic story with a paint brush. This wonderful book has reproduced some of Frazetta's finest work with meticulous care. The color plates are crisp and vibrant. They will captivate your imagination with their incredible beauty. This is one of those Frazetta collections that will soar in value once it is out of print. Take my advice. Buy it now!

Rating: Summary: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Review: I read the reviews on this book and I thought it was something I just couldn't miss. Anyway, I like the book, but it's not an epic masterpiece in my humble opinion. I like Michael Parkes and Michael Wheelan better, but art is just an opinion. Try to catch a few Frazetta pics on the net to see if you like his style before buying the book.

Rating: Summary: The best of all Frazetta collections Review: I used to be a collector of books about Frank Frazetta, but my hobby eventually died due to the cost of out-of-print editions and the scarcity of new material. Ballantine's "Fantastic Art" series has been out of print for quite a while, and it's very difficult to find used copies that are in decent shape. Thank goodness "Icon" was released. It allows fans to experience an excellent sampling of his works, and it contains interesting annotations and historical info. It's also very affordably priced. God bless you, Frank!
Rating: Summary: What this book means to me as an artist Review: I've admired Frank Frazetta's work for many many years. In this book I really studied his use of color. I'll look at a picture and then start to pick out color combinations - dark colors vs. light colors, warm color vs. cool color, complimentary colors, etc. How did he ever think of using this color with that color? Just a little dab will do it here and there. It's a real education. The brushwork too is something to behold. The different techniques just on an old fallen tree or in a foot that vanishes into the ground colors. I love his green moss on trees and roots. I have quite a few favorite artists. Most of them are illustrators. N.C. Wyeth (and only N.C.), Howard Pyle, Norman Rockwell, Alphonse Mucha, J.C. Leyendecker, Hal Foster (Prince Valiant), Walt Kelly (Pogo), Frederic Remington, Maxfield Parrish and a lot of the art that comes out of the Walt Disney Studios. With Mr. Frazetta's work it's everything and more; it's action, color and most important - it's passion. His passion comes through in his art with undeniable strength. This is a great book showing some of the work of a great artist. You can't go wrong buying this book. As an artist, this book is a condensed course in how it can be done. A picture is worth a thousand words; this book speaks a whole language.
Rating: Summary: The master of fantasy art! Review: Icon is a perfect title for Frank Frazetta's new book. His work lays the fundamental basis for all other fantasy artists to follow. He is the most copied and respected artist in his field. He is an icon! This book features some of his best works. Simply "Wow"! A must own for the fantasy art enthusiast.
Rating: Summary: Without a doubt, a masterpiece Review: If you have read any of the other reviews for this book, then what I am going to say will be old hat. However, Frazetta is the premiere fantasy illustrator/artist of this century and his ability to convey unspeakable emotion and dynamicism with a single brush stroke is unparalleled. This book is a fabulous collection of his work, some pieces never before published, beautifully reproduced and accompanied by very interesting and informative text. This is a must-have reference for any serious artist of the human figure or oil painter, and even if you're not a serious artist it's a great read and an enthralling journey to see the work of such a modern master.
Rating: Summary: not fantastic! Review: It's just a bunch of topless women. some of it is okay, I guess. It's not worth the money though!
