Review: This book is a must have for all serious Star Wars fans or anyone interested in film design. The book chronicles the design evolutions of all the major characters, vehicles, sets and props that were integral to the storytelling in The Phantom Menace. Star Wars fans will no doubt enjoy the 'what-could-have-beens' implied by the illustrations and discussions.

Review: This book is a must have for any Star Wars fan. The pre-production drawings give a different perspective to the making of the film, and reading the background stories of the pictures and the movie in general is very interesting.

Summary: Shows the creative process of character & set design
Review: This book is great in showing the character and set design development for Star Wars Episode 1: the Phantom Menace. The book provides minimum descriptions of each of the drawings and you get a feel for how the creative process worked on Episode 1. All of the concepptual scetches for Episode 1 vehicles and characters are shown. The book showcases some great conceptual designs by Doug Chaing (the main art director for episode 1) among others. The artwork itself is great and the quick explanations serve to focus the readers attention the art.the only thing I wish they had more of in this book was some of the production models, props and clay maquettes. The first series of books had these props and I really enjoyed seeing the 3-D models. However, the book is a really good guide to the development of the starwars universe and the art that's behind star wars. If you like this book I'd suggest picking up the following title: "Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace artwork by Doug Chaing" This title is actually a series of 20 lithographs of paintings for the phantom menace. Some of these paintings are shown in "The Art of Episode 1", but a good many are new and they are a great complement to the Art of Episode 1 book.

Review: This is a great book. Not only is the artwork beautiful to look at, it's also fun to see how the characters looks were developed and improved upon. If you like this book, I would also reccommend the other "Art Of books", and "The Making of Episode 1"

Summary: A great introduction for the "could be" of Episode I.
Review: This is just like the original Episode I picture: it still resembles with the original films. We can appreciate many aspects in the develpment of the story by watching the sketches, draws and production paintings, since Lucas likes to save some things for his next films, I do agree with the reviewer who said that it gives us a preview of the Episode I. I specially liked the second "Sith Witch" on page 196, who knows? maybe that's the sketch for the rumored new Sith villain named "Detori" that maybe will overwheal Darth Maul on ferocity.

Review: This is the book that I'ver personally been waiting for ever since they started to release written material about the Phantom Menace. If anyone is interested in the design, pre-production, conceptual design area, then this is the book for them. Doug Chiang (director of art/design at Lucasfilms) and many other designers at Lucasfilms are incredibly talented. Excellent sketches and conceptual work.

Review: This is the Holy Grail of production art books. Every page is filled with production sketches and paintings which inspire and excite me every time I look at them! The text is informative but never overshadows the visual content as some Making Of books tend to do. In a cool coffee table book size you will spend hours enjoying this title! It is worth every penny!
