Summary: Crass, penetrating, bedrock samples of Giger's macabre work.
Review: Here is an excellent foundation of H.R. Giger's work for those sci-fi die-hards who appreciate intense subjects in both text and art. This books shows a wide range of H.R.'s various styles, each one drilling through contemporary notions of form, etiquette, and courtesy. It is a no-nonsense expose' of the nightmare-ish alter-dimensional world of Giger's dreams which taps into the source of human fear. I most strongly recommend this and all the other art books by H.R Giger to all folks who can think for themselves, who can put reality, physics, religion, politics, morals, mathmatics, et. al. in their own separate boxes for a moment, and who seek a startling sidebar from the mundane world. Summary: the meaning of the necronomicon
Review: i dreamed of these spaces before i ever heard of Giger. there is one of the secrets of the twentieth century embedded in these images. but only one of them. giger ends by repeating himself & this is not a defect. when you tire of this world, you are grateful to return to the other. but part of it never leaves you, & that is its power.

Summary: Is this Art?
Review: I first came across Giger's work in the Alien movies, then I got the chance to see some of his other works, notably, a very bar he had designed - all of which impressed me greatly. So it was that when I heard of this book, being a fan of Lovecraft's work, I ordered it and avidly awaited its arrival, thinking I would get a treat.

I was expecting to see something that was, as I was led to believe, "inspired" by Lovecraft's stories. Instead, I got pictures of women in odd postures, with machines and whatsits plugging every possible orifice, mechanical genitalia, more women in odd postures, and a serpent/monster thing hanging from a cross and that looks surprisingly like an image of Christ - if Christ was depicted as having a REALLY long neck, a big row of massive, sharp teeth, dripping with drool, with an evil look in his eye.

Is all this well depicted? Yes. Did it take a lot of time and work to create? I suppose so. Does it cause a reaction? Yes. Does this qualify as Art just because it's intricate and varied and doesn't leave me reactionless?

Summary: Twisted
Review: In my opinion, H.R Giger is the most twisted and sick artist that I have ever seen, in a good way though. His work is only something that you would see in your wildest and most horrific nightmares.
Giger has been a great inspiration on my artwork and I reccomend all of his books to anyone who has a strong stomach and loves any work having to do with death and HELL.His website is a very good spot to check out his work at www.hrgiger.com or at www.darkworlds.com . Good luck with the Books and hope you like them.

Summary: mediocrity and genius
Review: Mr. Giger did the cover for Emerson, Lake and Palmer's great albumn "Brain Salad Surgery" and that central image of a kind of "Lilith of the future" is both an emblem and a counter-emblem of his whole work. One also thinks of the great creature from the movie "Alien" blasphemously beautiful in all of its dehumanized phallic grandeur. "H.R. Giger's Necronomicon" could be regarded as his Sistine Chapel, the focus of all his work, its origin and its summation. For many years now I have felt that Mr. Giger's work is full of both mediocrity and genius. In some odd way it is an exact fusion of the two. (...)I look at all of those devils and distances of depravity and I am filled with a kind of calm. His work comforts me - actually - in the way that the work of Norman Rockwell comforts and assures so many others. Why not? Edgar Allan Poe was also an absurd blend of mediocrity and genius. As a technician Mr. Giger is merely competent. But the skulls the heads and the industry add up to a world mildly beautiful, mildly ugly but stimulating as a kind of Picasso's less significant rebellious cousin. Definitely worth the look.

Summary: hell hath taken it's wrath on my soul
Review: This book was was one of the only I have ever seen to actually disturb me. H.R. Giger's artwork is incredibly inspirational to me. I love doing artwork for shock appeal. Giger has given me so many ideas on how to release my creative side with a wicked twist. It's an acid trip, and i've never even tried acid. Thanks.

Summary: Most Incredible
Review: This is the Holy Grail of Giger. That's all there is to it. I found this book, immediatly bought it, and was captivated. I have been a Giger fan for a few years, and am also a artist of the Biomechanichal style, so this book has been a great inspiration. People, when i show them this book, often talk about the "messages..ooh! a pentagram! he must be wiccast" but that is not the case. he is, like i am, juts drawing what needs to be in the picture. I reccomend this book for any Giger fan, or a fan of great art in general.
