Rating: Summary: Excellent resource for the interventional cardiologist Review: I am reviewing the third edition of this book with accompanying pocket-sized abridged version.
41 chapters spanning 1029 pages covering a variety of topics, including PTCA equipment and technique, brachial and radial approaches to intervention, high-risk intervention, acute coronary syndromes, left ventricular dysfunction, intracoronary thrombosis, bifurcation lesions, tortuousity and angulation, calcified lesions, eccentric lesions, ostial lesions, long lesions and small vessels, chronic total occlusion, coronary bypass grafts, spasm, dissection and acute closure, no-reflow, perforation, emergency bypass, restenosis, other complications, stents, rotablator, directional atherectomy, transluminal extraction atherectomy, intravascular ultrasound, Doppler blood flow measurements, adjunctive pharmacotherapy, local drug delivery, peripheral vascular intervention, balloon valvuloplasty, and radiations principles and safety. The chapters are organized in outline format with an appropriate number of figures, diagrams, algorithms and tables. The roentgenograms are good, but it is difficult to read coronary angios unless you can see the videos. This book was published in 2001 and updated in 2002 with important clinical trial results. The larger book is accompanied by a pocket-sized reference with the key points from major chapters and copies of important tables and clinical algorithms.
Overall, an excellent resource for the interventional cardiologist.
