Rating: Summary: The Leonardo da Vinci of science writing! Review: That's a direct quote from Amazon, and boy, were they right. Only Cole would link the O.J. Simpson trial to the discovery of the top quark in order to explain various roads to truth. The best part is the relationship between beauty and truth, in which she explains the unexplainable--showing how Einstein's theories (and in fact, all modern physics) is based on the notion of symmetry. But there's also so much less etheral food for thought here: the geometry of fairness, for example!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is a great book. If only it had been around when I was at school it would have fueled my interest in mathematics. I would then have made an effort to understand all those equations that were so glibly foisted on me in such a dispassionate and uninteresting way.The negative reviews here are generally because she hasn't described any equations - I think they are missing the point somewhat. Her ability to inspire passion in the subject is worth a million equations to the majority of people who, before reading this book, would have considered mathematics an obscure and boring science.
