Rating: Summary: A Good Exercise for Excellent Readers. Review: This is not an introductory level text. It is well worth the effort required by to read it. The author lays a subtle trap in chapter 1. Just as you are ready to agree that Programmed Cell Death could not have evolved in Unicellular Organisms, he argues that Programmed Cell Death may have done just that! Programmed Cell Death in uni-cellular animals does seem counter-intuitive. But, so does the flight of the bumblebee.

The authors of individual chapters are experts in their fields and the editors have done a noteworthy task in organizing the book into a coherent whole. It is indispensable for students, fellows and senior investigators interested in the subject.
