Rating: Summary: A Horrible Way to Learn Geometry Review: Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge was an excellent resource for me as I studied Geometry on my own this past year. The textbook being used in my geometry class was somewhat incomplete and too simple so my math teacher, and Geometry team coach, issued me an old copy of this book--Geometry for Enjoyment & Challenge. I sat in the back of class and studied this text. The problems, though challenging, provided the mental stimulation I'd been looking for in a math class. By spring, I was able to win 1st place in Geometry in my state's Mu Alpha Theta Competition using theorems and skills gained from this book. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to gain a useful grasp of Geometry.
Rating: Summary: Exactly what I needed! Review: Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge was an excellent resource for me as I studied Geometry on my own this past year. Rating: Summary: Something wrong with this book Review: I took a course were unfortunatly i had to study using this book. While thats not really possible considering the answers make no sense and they give you the hardest problems that you can not solve because they do not give you enough information, while im sorry that im so stupid i could not figure it out just by looking at it. now if you do not think that there is something wrong with this book listen to one of there problems: "arnex has a number of angles in his pocket. he takes out two of the five. what is the probablity..." Other names include "shad", "daffy difference", and a lesson called "the case of the missing diagram." now a positive about this book is that it is easy to understand what they are asking and they do not give you stupid explanations for why you need to know geometry. If your serious about geometry by all means consider this book but if your stuck with this book in class do all that you can to stay away from it
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: The book Geometry for Enjoyment and Challenge is hypocritical even in its title. Using the book may be challenging, but I do not know anybody who would enjoy doing problems out of this book. It is a true trial to make it from one end of this volume to the other without succombing to the mind-numbing repetition, the incomplete explanations, the problems that are not fully explained or impossible (there are several impossible problems in the book, showing that all the problems were not checked by the company that produced it). If you wish to learn Geometry, use a different source. If you are considering taking a class with this book, try to avoid it if at all possible. I am only warning all students that if they end up using this book, they will undoubtably be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Good geometry book Review: This book is old for a school textbook, but it is still pretty good. The problems are not bad, and explanations are pretty good. I do wish that the book would sometimes give more information on sample problems. Also, more detailed answers in the back of the book would be nice (I doubt the publishers would ever do this nor teachers wouldn't like it!). Still a good book. I like Algebra better than Honors Geometry. I had no choice in texts, I just took what the school gave me. If you want to self-study geometry, this book would probably be good too - although I would advise buying an answer booklet for self-study as you will probably need it.
Rating: Summary: Ahhhhh!!! Review: Wow, this book stinks, and as with the previous review, it is my only resource. Enjoyment? I'd kill myself befre I enjoyed this. There is no way to understand this book without a real teacher (yeah, one that teaches). Unlike Ms.Boyland who can't teach. Thank you and Good-day
