Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Best book on the retina
Review: It amazes me that despite the old age of this book, it remains the single most useful reference for retinal researchers, which is reflected in how frequently it gets cited. It covers the literature up to the mid 1980s very well. Even though we have learned a lot more about the retina since the completion of this book, most of the major discoveries concerning retinal mechanisms were made prior to the mid 1980s and they are discussed in reasonable detail here. If you want a good introduction to retinal physiology, this is still a good place to start. However, this is a "qualitative" book and it does not discuss any computational studies, and for these topics you will need to look elsewhere.
