Summary: Now even better!
Review: I have owned this book for nearly 4 years, and refer to it often. As much as I "love" this book, I have always wished it had pictures of actual placentas. Well, the publisher heard my plea, and now offers The Companion Atlas CD bundled with the text under a new ISBN number (0967035414). The CD has great color images of placentas, highlighting normal anatomic features as well as pathological features, from common to not-so-common conditions like furcate cord insertion, thrombosed fetal surface vessels, chorioamnionitis spreading through the membranes, and amnion nodosum to name a few.
As an added bonus for those of us who lecture, the copyright extends to the owner, limited use of the images in educational PowerPoint-type presentations! Slick! The CD is also available by itself (ISBN 0967035422), but the better value, if you want to "get to know" the placenta, is the bundle. I included the ISBN numbers, because the new products are hard to find without them.

Summary: A must-have reference guide for placental informants...
Review: This is as concise a reference guide for the health care professional and students of placentas I've yet to find. The layout is very logical and is in keeping with the target audience as useful and practical. The focus is wonderfully simple throughout and the contents are beautifully referenced. The illustrations, diagrams and reproductions lend additional detail. This reference/guide will enable the target audience an opportunity to further understand the clinical and practical concepts in a matter of moments rather than more tedious searching in previously published hard bound texts. The authors have beautifully conveyed a simplictic approach that utilizes the significant work of placental experts. In summary this reference guide sets a very high standard of useful and practical information. A level of information for which the professional and the lay person may rely for quick, timely and concise facts about the placenta.
