Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Shaking habits
Review: Originating from the Forensic University of Lausanne (Switzerland), the authors produced an up-to-date register of not only optico-physico-chemical skin impression developments, but also of their interpretation to produce a ridge (fingerprint, barefoot) individualization.
Their historical and scientific approach of "fingerprint science" shakes also the tree of identification dogmatism of both the anglo-saxon system (the certainty of identification is based on empiricist expert's knowledge based on ridgeology) and the more latine one (a pseudo-scientific numerical standard ascertains individualization by a mathematical "statistical" proof...).
Setting the true pillars of fingerprints identification will help criminalists to better understand the place of ridge impression as the most powerful identification tool within the whole spectrum of evidences collected at and exploited from the scene of crime, and hopefully entertain a needed critical approach to upgrade its potential.
