Rating: Summary: Very Basic Review: For the past 2 years I have used copies of this book in my practice of anxiety counselling. My aim is to involve the whole family and, whether or not, they come as a group or work together at home, this book has proved to be a significant catalyst in bringing the clients and their families/support network together. As the title states it is not a book for the knowledgeable long term patient who is looking for new treatment information It is aimed at those who know little about anxiety disorders. About 30% of the book is dedicated to a general description and causes of the disorders with 10% giving a brief overview of types of treatments in use. The remainder of the book deals with how caregivers and clients can work together. The use of real life stories of both caregivers and those with anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia, provides a basis for mutual understanding and discussion. The large number of concrete ready to use suggestions gives the family the necessary feeling they have something tangible with which to work immediately. The author states the size, content and format of this 70 page book is the result of feedback from many sources on what particular combination proved to be most useful. The group has made an excellent call. A 200 or 300 page book can be intimidating or a `turn off' but these 70 pages of clear, concise practical information has, in my experience, been well accepted and gets the job done even amongst many of those who initially were not particularly interested. This size is also important when the book is presented to busy employers or teachers to acquaint them with the disorders and ways of working together. In future editions I would like to see a larger specific chapter on General Anxiety Disorder but the caregiver information for GAD is covered well. Richard Smith Anxiety Counsellor

Rating: Summary: Helpful Review: I found this book to be very helpful to people with the disorders as well as the caregivers. It describes in such detail how the disorder works on the system and wonderful good advise on how to help be a good support person.
Rating: Summary: At Last we are Talking Review: I know I am not alone in having several books on anxiety and not being able to get my family to read any of them. It is discouraging. I have had the disorder for 10+ years and this book designed specifically for caregivers is the first one the family would read. We are now starting to talk about my anxiety and working together. The book helped me and my family and I can't recommend it strongly enough.
Rating: Summary: Finally some help for those who don't understand Review: I purchased this book for my husband because I was unable to tell him what I really needed when I was in a panic attack and/or experiencing very high anxiety. This book has been a blessing for me and my family. Now, not only my husband, but other members of my family and my friends now have a better understanding of what I am experiencing and what they can do to help me when I need them. If you are having the same experience, this book is a must have for you. Thank you so much Mr. Strong for writing such a useful, informational book.
Rating: Summary: Greatest book written for support people w/ Anxiety Disorder Review: I showed this book to my therapist and she thought it was the greatest book written for support people with anxiety disorder. I have this disorder and it has helped me and my partner very much. I highly recommend it to anyone who is having a problem explaining the disorder to family, friends and spouses.
Rating: Summary: Pleased Review: I was not expecting to be so pleased with this book. It is extremely well written. Written in terms I understand and feel comfortable with. Many books I have read I found myself feeling ill at ease while reading them. There are also many helpful resource sites for further information. This book will be wonderful for not only caregivers / support people but also those whom suffer from various mental illnesses. I would highly recomend it.
