Rating: Summary: This is a Christian book Review: As far fetched as it may sound, this is a Christian book with biblical quotations throughout. Neither the front nor the back cover provide any indication of this whatsoever. That's the most upsetting part. If you want some health information along with your bible study this is an interesting book. But if you are interested in immune system makeover, don't pay for a book for which half the research time was spent poring over the pages of the Bible.
Rating: Summary: 90 Day Immune System Makeover Review: Dr. Janet's "90 Day Immune System Makeover" is a life changer and for me, a life saver. I have suffered with chronic fatigue and other illnesses for years and by following Dr. Janet's makeover I have a healthier life with more energy than I can remember. This book is written systematically, one step at a time. Instead of being way over my head, it is clear and understandable. I have learned not only why I have been so ill, but also what makes me well and balanced. This book has become my physical life "bible" and the system part of my life. My doctors told me I would never be well. Dr. Janet's system has made me well. Following this system really works and gives me encouragement every time I pick it up.

Rating: Summary: Rethink your life Review: I finally had to set this book down almost halfway through it, because the Christian fanaticism was too much. It started innocently enough with comments about being able to use your body for it's full god-given potential, and eating the food god gave us. Then it got even worse, with scripture quotes used as support for dietary recommendations. The last straw was when she suggested that people who snack on sugar foods should instead snack of the Word of God (her capitals). I'm going to write a letter to the publisher, complaining about the packaging and marketing of this religious track. This is outright offensive. In addition to that, there really isn't any new nutritional information, or even an effective summarizing of current health ideas. The best stuff she has doesn't come close to the valuable, fact-based info from Harvey and Marilyn Diamond's classic "Fit For Life." While I love the idea of a peppermint and spearmint bath, the book leads you to believe they'd be able to back this up with reasons on why it helps the immune system. It doesn't. I want my money back
Rating: Summary: A wonderful recovery program Review: I hadn't expected at all that this would be a Christian-oriented book. The author mentions God and praises God in a Christian way on almost every page. This can be off-putting to readers, such as myself, who are looking for medical information free of religious fervor. There are many things I wish the author had done instead of praising her God, such as provide more scientific/medical explanations for some of the things she suggests, e.g. purging/colon cleaning. This book had some helpful information in it but not much beyond what you probably already know if you've been halfway paying attention to news and talk shows for the last decade. It certainly wasn't what I'm looking for in my desire to repair my immune system following a serious illness.
Rating: Summary: Science and Nature (not a trivia category ) and God! Review: I love the way Dr. Maccaro describes in laymen terms how we can come to grips with our bodies through science and nature but at the same time, never underestimating God's role in the healing process. She was keen in backing all her scientific research with scripture, and when she quoted scripture, there seemed always to be scientific and natural parallels. This author certainly did her homework on this book. After reading this book I sensed a highly intelligent writer, but with all the research that had to have taken place to write this book, I have a greater sense that this author is a warm and fuzzy person as well.
Rating: Summary: Are you 'sick and tired of being sick and tired?' Review: I purchased this book after seeing it advertised in a Christian magazine. It caught my eye because, having a chronic illness, I am just plain tired of feeling sick all the time. I knew my diet wasn't the best, and I took vitamins and supplements on a sporadic basis. What I needed was an easy-to-read gameplan to improve my health. This book is just that. Dr. Maccaro has done her research, as well as having a chronic disease herself, and I feel her book is a very valuable tool to use if you are wanting to take a good hard look at your diet and lifestyle and are willing to make changes. I admit that I have been following her program now for only two weeks, so it is too early for me to tell if it indeed will help eleviate some of my symptoms. But what I can say is that after two weeks I DO have more energy and feel like I am doing something GOOD for my body! Her 90-day program basically has you eliminate all wheat, dairy, sugar and caffeine from your diet, as well as taking supplements, adding exercise and trying to eliminate stress. Not an easy chore, but I have found it to be much easier than I thought. She gives great recommendations for products to purchase, which I very much appreciate. I know that when entering a Natural Food Store I am confronted with so many choices I don't know which way to turn, so her recommendations are great. I live in a very small town and have found most of the products she recommends, but Dr. Maccaro also gives addresses as to where to find the products as well. She includes in her first 30 days of the program a detoxifying program, which unfortunately for me was too strong for my system. I anticipate that this would not be a problem for most people however. I also appreciate the fact that Dr. Maccaro is a Christian and writes from a Christian perspective, adding prayer to one of her chapters on stress relief. The only reason I did not give this book a 5-star rating is because I felt there were a few questions left unanswered: such as in her first 30-day eating plan she outlines what she wants you to eat (which is helpful), but I never really know if I can add anything else (within the guidelines of the diet of course) I also wish that she had included an email address where we could reach her, but I do realize she is a busy person! After two weeks I am VERY happy with the way I feel and I hope, at the end of the 90 days that I am a healthier, more energetic person. I think I will be, if the first two weeks are any indication! Thanks Dr. Maccaro! Your book is easy to read and very, very helpful!
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: If you've ever given thought to fasting or doing a toxin cleanse, you might want to check this book out. Learn about the necessities of foods with powerful antioxidants and enzymes, and why dairy foods aren't doing anyone any good (I recently learned that dairy cows are milked so often, they develop mastitis, a painful breast infection lactating mothers can get that causes bacteria and, in cows, pus- UGH! That stuff is in milk!). The 90 days are broken up into three 30-day parts, complete with tests to take and motivation to keep going. Dr. Maccaro considers herself to be a very spiritual person, and there is an unbelievable amount of scriptures quoted along with the nutritional information; so be prepared, if this offends you or puts you off. It is, however, a great way to rid your body of disease-friendly toxins and can be a great jump start on your road to wellness. (Be prepared, though, to ditch all sugar, dairy, and meat products, as well as caffeine (AAAAGH!), artificial sweeteners and wheat).
Rating: Summary: A wonderful recovery program Review: The 90 day Immune System Makeover is a wealth of information for anyone who wishes to build their health to the highest possible level, I found it uplifting, informative, and written in such a personal way that i felt the book was written just for me. I read the book upon the recommendation of a friend that regained her health using Dr. Maccaro's 90 Day plan. Dr. Maccaro addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of building your health. This is real information that will leave you in awe of what your body can do if you give it the right nutrients.
Rating: Summary: "It's Working!" Review: This will be short -- as I am still in the midst of going through the complete 90-day program. Actually I wanted a Q & A field. Dr. Janet, you have mentioned how heat -- ovens, microwaves, etc. -- destroys food value. My questions is: When I drink my Ky-o Green, do I destroy its food value by zapping it in the microwave in a cup of (then) hot water?? Your explanations are wonderful!! For the first time, someone (you) has explained assimilation matters (for example) in a tempered manner, which I can follow and not become overwhelmed. I've actually retained the information. My book is dog-eared and full of special "notice this" marks. I have every reason to believe I will be a new person by March 17 when my 90 days are up ... and that's in conjunction with an injured back healing at the same time ... 12 years' worth. My back will take longer, but my "inside pharmacy" will be supplying the necessary elements for success! God bless you for your consciensious work! You have my prayers for a continued life, full of blessings, both professionally and personally. Sincerely, Marilyn (wife of Sequoyah)
