Summary: Great help for parent or teacher of ADD child
Review: I refer to this book often. It provides very helpful information about diagnosing and dealing with children with ADD/ADHD. When my child was first diagnosed as ADD, this book helped me realize that it was a fair diagnosis. Every time I get frustrated with the way teachers deal with him, or need to be reminded about all the implications of his being ADD, this is the book I read. I understand that there is a revised edition coming out soon. I plan to get it as soon as it is out. Dr. Umansky provides professional information with personal stories as examples, which make the book accessible to parents and professionals.

Summary: Overall, a useful contribution to parent literature on ADD
Review: The book was interesting and reasonably complete. It was well-written for a target audience of parents and teachers of ADD kids and offered a broader perspective on what ADD is than many books. The book's principal weakness pertains to its discussion of the legal issues surrounding ADD and educational accommodations. While the discussion of IDEA was exceptionally thorough and complete, there was no mention whatsoever of Section 504 laws or accommodation plans. With many parents and school districts reluctant to implement special ed services for ADD, Section 504 plans have proven to be a godsend for parents in getting schools to flex to the needs of their ADD children without having to implement special services or IEPs. I would recommend the book with this one caveat.

Summary: A MUST HAVE FOR EVERY PARENT OF AN ADD CHILD!
Review: THIS WAS THE FIRST BOOK ON ADD THAT I PURCHASED AFTER MY SON WAS DIAGNOSED. IT HELPED ME AND MY HUSBAND TO UNDERSTAND OUR SON'S CONDITION AND GAVE US TOOLS TO HELP HIM. I ALSO GAVE THIS BOOK TO HIS TEACHERS AND IT GAVE THEM ALOT OF INSIGHT AS WELL. UNLESS THERE IS MANDATORY TRAINING FOR TEACHERS IT'S UP TO US TO MAKE SCHOOL AN AS POSITIVE EXPEREANCE AS POSIBLE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND THIS BOOK IS ONE WAY.
