Rating: Summary: good for performance oriented walkers Review: This book is excellent for those who want to either walk for exercise or want to walk for sport (i. e., races). There are many excellent photos which describe proper walking technique and common technique errors. There is also a section on racewalking and what to expect at official judged racewalks. This book should fit the needs of either powerwalkers or novice racewalkers.

Rating: Summary: Terse yet padded Review: This book is informative but confused in its focus. It purports to be for those who want to walk fast but not race, but spends almost half its pages on training techniques (and endless charts for you to fill in) best suited for racers. Its descriptions of stride and gait are clearest if you have read other books already and understand the concepts. It is best used to supplement a trainer and not as a stand-alone guide. If you want to learn the basics, start somewhere else. That being said, what it does do, it does well. If you have learned the basics of walking and want a workout and not just a walk, this is the book for you. If you want to improve your walking endurance or speed, this book will help.
Rating: Summary: Walking Fast helps walkers take the next step! Review: Walking Fast was a labor of love, written for those who are already walking but want to get more from their workout. I am a firm believer that you don't have to be some super-athlete-in-training to learn from and follow a little bit of what athletes do to get as fit and as fast as they are. That's what Walking Fast does. With 3 levels of programs, you can simply get yourself more fit if that's your choice, dabble at more speed, or take a full dive into race walking. No reason why even a fitness walker can't try to structure a training program to give them more bang for their buck! Plus, if you're someone who craves real detail about technique, you will get what you want in this book. I spent a lot of time analyzing movements and trying not only to describe them, but also to use real-people models so you could truly see what everything looks like. This book won't do most people as a starter guide if you aren't already a walker -- unless you are really left-brained -- but for anyone who needs that next step ... this is it! I hope you enjoy it!
