Summary: Inspiring and Informative
Review: I wasn't sure what to expect when I first read this book last year - but from the moment I picked it up I was drawn into the world of "Valerie" and the ALF. It read very much like a novel, and the pace was thrilling. If at the start of the book you had no idea how someone could devote their life to an underground animal liberation group and put themselves at risk of arrest - by the end all those questions had been answered - for Newkirk brings you inside the mind of "Valerie" and those brave souls like her. Highly recommended to those interested in animal rights.

Summary: This book could change your life!
Review: Most animal rights activists look down upon the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) and the destruction of property that some of their rescue missions entail. Animal rights activists are one of the most peaceful group of people in the world, so why are some of them smashing and burning things? The book Free the Animals, by Ingrid Newkirk (co-founder of PETA), not only explains exactly how people can do this, but it also shows the American Animal Liberation Front through the eyes of the people who started it.

Told like a fictional story, this book takes you through the life of the womyn who started it all. Starting out as a cop and ending her career to devote her life to animals, this womyn changed the animal rights movement for America. Each chapter is another section of her life, and another raid she went on.

Newkirk gives a personal touch to the movement through this womyn, and also through the animals. A story and pictures of each animal she rescues are in the book. You honestly get to live the life of an ALF activist. Depicting everything from stake-outs to the rescues themselves, this book has everything you need to form an accurate opinion about the Animal Liberation Front.

Reading this book will definitely enlighten you and change your mind about the animal rights activists who participate in such activities. I seriously recommend this book to anyone who is curious about the ALF and hates to read factual information. It will change your life. --Reviewed by Starza Kolman

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: This book is a tool for myth shattering. When I first started reading it, I was gripped with suspense, especially because it's fact, not fiction. The real reasons behind the ALF are outlined in this book.. and the fact that the ALF does not condone violence, but liberation of non-human animals.

People may label the ALF as "terrorists", but the real terrorists are outlined in this book: vivisectionists breaking every law ever written on humane treatment, factory farms and their intense suffering (and more law breaking inhumanities), even government experiments and the conflict of interest surrounding them.

A definite must-read!!

Summary: The best I've ever read!!
Review: This book is the most exciting animal rights book ever! Most books are just facts and information, this is a true story of the most wonderful people ever created! They show what lengths one should go to for something they believe in! If you are interested in animals or just a good read, read this book! I could read it over and over and still be surprized and dazzled!

Summary: Animal Rights Morons, Animal Rights Literature
Review: This book, I find offensive. Offensive as being a human. These people calling themselves the ALF take it on their own to impeade medical research that saves lives. They "Free the animals" because THEY beleive it's "the right thing to do". Tell me this: If youre mother was dying of cancer, would you say "Sure, go ahead and free the animals that might yeild lifesaving research". Of COURSE NOT. These people are a disgrace to humanity. Don't support this peice of animal rights cant.

Summary: a real eye opener
Review: This is a very touching book that is written like a suspense novel. The courage of one woman to start the ALF is explored. Each chapter tells a separate story of brave animal rescues. I cried, I cheered, I couldn't put it down

Review: This is an excellent book that all should read and learn from. It has recently become available as a book on tape, read by Ingrid Newkirk herself; PETA sells it. Get them both!
