Summary: Just Excellent!
Review: I don't know what I can say about the book that hasn't already been said! It's all true. Buy this book, seriously! I visited Peter's nursrey in Forestville, CA and got to talk to Peter himself and buy a few plants. Definitely worth the drive, if not just to see the impressive Nepenthes first hand! But seriously, this book tells you everything you need to know to grow and care for these amazing plants!

Review: I really dug the pictures in there, they were really groovy. Real good flesh eating plant background, solid tips on raising these feisty critters. Didnt work for me though. Had an indoor terrarium and everthing dried up. Sorry.

Summary: Best how-to book I've ever read
Review: I wish every how-to book was this readable and informative. I'd tried growing carnivorous plants before, without much luck. Now I have seven that are thriving. I've even started some from seed, which is an accomplishment for me because I can't even start vegetables from seed. Thank you Peter D'Amato.

Review: If you want to grow carnivorous plants you need this book. This book contains everything that you need to know about caring for carnivorous plants. It is well organized and I refer to it often. It contains many pictures so that you can decide which plants that you would like to grow. The author is the owner of California Carnivors which is an excellent place to order your plants. The plants that I have ordered are doing great. I plan to expand my collection soon.

Summary: Visit his nursery too!
Review: If you're ever in wine country (CA), visit his HUGE nursery. It's obvious this guy knows his stuff. The added bonus is that he knows how to write about it in an engaging manner. The pictures are beautiful, too. Read this books if you're at all interested in CPs or plants in general. You'll want to raise some of your own (I did, and now I have three!).

Summary: The best guide for cultiving carnivorous plants
Review: If you've ever bought a venus fly-trap and had it die on you, but would still like to give it another try, this is the perfect book. And not just for fly-traps, but nearly every other carnivorous plant out there!

This book is packed full of information on all kinds of plants that trap and eat insects. But best of all, Peter D'Amato, who runs the largest retail store selling such plants, gives helpful advice on how to grow them. Pretty much everything from soil mixes to light and humidity levels is detailed out here. He even gives lists of plants that do well in different settings, such as windowsills, terrariums, and outdoor bogs. And the writing style is such that it is easy to understand and follow, and even has a nice sense of humor. And while the author's experience is growing them on the Pacific Coast, the advice is easily adaptable to other climates with some adjustment.

This is a must-have book for anyone interested in carnivorous plants - and the "bible" for anyone who hopes to grow them successfully.
