Summary: The Wilderness Family.
Review: I [hve] dreams of visiting Africa. Kobie Kruger's brilliant review of life in the African bush has deeply moved me and made me more serious and determined to travel to Africa's vast Kruger National Park. Her words paint a beautiful picture of Africa and it's animals. I laughed at how she overcame small problems, and cried at the hardest problem of all - giving up their beautiful lion Leo. She writes in a way that makes you want to know more. She tells of the bad points of living in the bush, but the good points outweigh them by far. She talks about their home for years at the Malangheni Ranger Station in the North-West Region of Kruger National Park. Her description of her home is beautiful and makes you wish you could jump into the book to see it for yourself. Her light sense of humour, and her ability to make you feel part of the family are just some of the qualities that make this book the best book I have ever read.

Summary: Facinating tale of Africa's wild life
Review: In this facinating tale of Africa's wild life, Kobie Kruger, the wife of a game ranger, gives a vivid account of her experiences as a foster mother to a lion cub named Leo.

Meet the lion cub who loves finger-sucking and fishing, the family dog who becomes best friend and interpreter to the lion cub, and the human family who raises the cub with much love and care. Kruger is an elogent and entertaining story-teller, and this is a delightful and touching story you will want to read over and over again.

Summary: Zimbabwe Nostalgia
Review: Kobie Kruger's book is a masterpiece of prose and description about the African veld and wildlife. I enjoyed it very much and actually shed tears for she and her family when they had to say goodbye to their beloved Leo at Pamuzinda in Zimbabwe. My husband and I stayed at Pamuzinda Lodge in 1998 and I'm sure we saw Leo with the other lions. One cannot help but feel concern for the continued safety of those animals in lieu of the political climate of Zimbabwe at present. Do read the book!

Summary: Great Read
Review: Like so many other reviewers, I too loved this book. Refreshing to read a book about animals, how they behave amongst themselves and how they adapt to life with humans. I was amazed and inspired by the Kruger family - their hard work and dedication to exist as harmoniously as they did alongside their animal neighbors. A nice change of pace from so many commercialized novels - this book tells the true story of nature and how a human family can fit into it and still come out with a pleasant ending. Kobie narrates the early years of Leo their adopted lion in a delightful way - I felt I truly came to know him. Interspersed with the details on animal life, is the fine depicting of the settings where all these dramas take place. I came to like Kobie, her husband and her children. There was kindness, common sense and firmness of spirit in the telling of their experiences.

Summary: The biggest problem with non-fiction is no sequels.
Review: Probably one of the most touching and stirring non-fiction books I've ever read, I finished it far too quickly. Kobie Kruger is a very talented author, with a natural talent for engendering empathy to her deepest maternal love for both animals and her children.

I found myself in tears at their losses and beaming at their joys, and craving a life in Africa, far from telephones and the other modern annoyances of society.

Summary: Experience the wilderness in your livingroom
Review: Reading this book was just like being onsite Krüger National Park with a family of a game warden. You could experience the emotional highs and lows with the mother of the family and also enjoy the overwhelming nature and wildlife of a remote ranger station. I just could not put the book down. The only thing missing were the experiences of the game warden himself. I'm sure he could have shared many more exiting stories.

Summary: Reader from Melbourne, Australia
Review: The Wilderness Family - This books is most certainly the best book I have read in years. As a keen visitor to the Kruger Park for many years, if I could climb inside this book, I would. I loved Kobie's sense of humor and wonderful descriptions of all the animals. She explains so much about all animals, as well as general hardships involved in daily life in the Kruger Park. The Kruger family are a remarkable family to love and adopt so many animals in need of attention. Keep a box of tissues handy! Keep on writing more books!

Summary: The Widerness Family
Review: The Wilderness Family was a really good book. Kobie Kruger did a great job of painting a picture with her own words. I loved how in every chapter she told a different story. She always loved to write about how Leo, her lion, would always pretend he was a dog. She also would write about her many animals. Some of the animals she owned and fostered were chickens, dogs, lion, badgers, and horses. Overall, I loved this book very much, found it easy to read, and I would reccomend it to people of all ages!

Summary: A Great Escape
Review: This is one of my favorite excape reads. I've read it many times and each time get just a bit more out of it as well as the feeling of being there and wishing I was. It's an incredible adventure written with humor and honesty. Life was not easy and it certainly wasn't dull. Ms. Kruger displays the courage and humility it takes to survive, sometimes alone, as part of Africa's protector. The interaction between humans and animals, even the fearful-for-her snakes speaks volumes. It's a book I don't want to end. Imagine raising children to appreciate life in this incredible location! Wonderful.
