Rating: Summary: A great book for understanding horses Review: I love this book! I bought it, and the rest of the Mark Rashid books, hoping to learn to get inside the horse's head. Growing up, I had always been around horses the I "knew" and had a good idea of what they would or wouldn't do. Now, as an adult, I am starting over and purchasing horses that I don't "know". I have gained so much insight about horses that I am now much more confident around these new horses. At first, I was unsure about the novel format of this book versus a book with text book format. I quickly changed my mind once I started reading. I could only put the book down when my eyes would no longer stay open! I would find myself laughing (sometimes hysterically) and other times saying "AH, HA! That's what is going on!" This book is definately a MUST read. I am passing it on to my young daughters to start reading.

Rating: Summary: A Must for Every Library Review: I read this book in about 5 hours flat! I bought both this and "Considering the Horse" and found both fascinating. I personally bought a horse which was the "wrong colour". He is turning into an absolute dream. As we, in South Africa, do not have access to this kind of horse trainer, I found this book invaluable. It showed me different ways of working through common problems which I thought was unique to my situation. The narrative is easy to read and understand and Mark Rashid sums up the problem, solution and reasoning from the human and horse's point of view at the end of the each chapter. His solutions to common problems are clear and easy to remember - you don't have to take the book with you to the pasture! He shows you how, if his suggestions have not helped, to search for the answer yourself. It is not a "How To" book, but more a "Maybe this could work, what do you think?" book. It helps you search for the solution to certain problems yourself. I think this book will become one of my well thumbed books.

Rating: Summary: Getting to know a horse without having one in your garden Review: I stumbled upon this book in a bookstore the other day and didn't think twice about buying it. What fascinated me most was Mark Rashids storytelling way of giving us a chance to learn from his experience. Because besides trying it out yourself that is the best way to learn. If you work much around horses you get this feeling for their actions and thinking and, that is exactly what shines through this book. You relate to the situations, as you see in your mind and feel in your body the horses he is describing. If you should happen to find yourself in a similar situation later on I am 100% sure you would remember the "story on that", which could help you find a way to sort out the problem. If you on the other hand are not very familiar with horses, this the perfect start for getting to know their ways, without having a horse outside in your garden. The next step being getting to know a live example! The reason for many people being afraid of horses is exactly because they think that the horse thinks like a human. Once they start thinking like the horse, they lose much of their fear and from there everything is much nicer; they relax and ride better! A superb book, I couldn't stop reading before I reached the last page and the words were out! After that I couldn't stop thinking about it!
Rating: Summary: Demonstrates how to see horse as thinking, feeling creature. Review: I was impressed by the author's honesty about his own mistakes and how he overcame them. A great tribute to his teachers.....human and equine. A good lesson for horsemen who would mentor would-be horsemen.
Rating: Summary: Considering the Horse:Tales of Problems Solved and Lessons L Review: If there was ever to be an "owner's manual" for horse owners, then all of Mark's books would required. Mark is humorous and compassionate for the horse as well as the owner. Absolutley a must read for any one interested in learning about horses and their behavior as well as how to correct probelm behaviors.
Rating: Summary: It doesn't get any better Review: It just doesn't get any better-entertaining,packed with good information, and well written. If it doesn't help you be a better horseman it certainly ought to help you be a better human being. It was a joy to read- so as soon as I finished it I couldn't wait to get the other two books(which are just as good) His little stories are not only fun to read but by telling you the way he does it all makes sence. I can't remember when I've been so excited about one particular writter. Good, helpful stuff!
Rating: Summary: considering the writer as well Review: Knowing the author and having worked with him briefly, I must say this is a refreshing, and entertanining look at horses from the view of the horse, and a man who loves them.
Rating: Summary: Well Written--25 stars Review: Mark Rashid did an *EXCELLENT* job of writing this book! His way was very intriguing, and you just find yourself GLUED. Instead of coming out and giving you instructions on HOW to fix problems, he tells you stories of HIM fixing different problems. Also, I like his approach and way of thinking. He tells you that his ways may not be the best ways, and they may not always work, so you just rely on the book for some tips. But, I really liked it and got into it, and at the end - I cried. I couldn't help myself, it was like *I* was there doing it. If you have some problems with your horse, are looking into different methods of problem fixing, or are just looking for some good horse stories. GET THIS BOOK!
