Summary: Finally learning how to speak "Dog"!!!
Review: Jan Fennell's book is amazing! Someone has finally sat down and taken a look at the way dogs behave in the wild and has been able to translate that into a way for humans to communicate with our beloved pets.

If you have a problem dog (biting, barking, sepearation anxiety, juming up, etc.) this book will help you deal with the problem humanely and effectively for a lifetime. This is not a quick-fix book however. It will mean a change in lifestyle (mostly the way you treat your dogs), but you will be rewarded for your effort a hundred fold by your pet.

It doesn't matter if you have a pure-bred dog or a mutt from the shelter -- if it's a dog, you can use this book!!!

Summary: "The Dog Listener"
Review: We have three dogs; all three could have been the roll models for this book. They were hell on legs. Now after reading this very easy to read book and following Miss Fennell's "Amichien" process we have the most laid-back pooches you could ask for, and all with perfect manners. I have read all the other reviews and find that the only critiques are either clicker people who only want robots not a well-adjusted member of the family or people who have reviewed what must be another book entirely. I can and do recommend this book to every dog owner old or new.

If everyone used Miss Fennell's process of communication with the canine world, I am sure there would not be the thousands of dogs in desperate need of re-homing all over this Great Country of ours.

I am looking forward to the release of Jan's second book over here, as it has already been published in the UK.

Summary: Excellent! All dog owners must read this book!
Review: This is an excellent guide for learning how to communicate with your dog in his/her own language. As a fellow dog owner/lover, it is hard to remember that a dog is not human, and we need to learn to communicate in a way that the dog understands. Jan Fennell explains how to establish yourself as a leader within what your dog believes is his/her pack. This book makes perfect sense and every dog owner should definitely read this book and adopt Jan's methods or at least try.

Summary: Old dogs can learn new tricks....
Review: Having grown up with dogs as a child, I thought I was well equipped to 'raise' puppies. My partner and I embarked on 'parenthood' earlier this year with a couple of puppies from the local rescue centre. We read Jan's book first, and I cannot urge strongly enough any dog owner, first time or experienced, to buy and read this book. I have learned so much; my husband, as a first time owner found it a little easier, as he had fewer bad habits to 'unlearn'; the best testimony is from our two pups who are well-balanced, happy and constantly being complimented on their behaviour, mostly by our dog-owning friends who, I am sure, think we must beat them senseless when we are alone with them. Our pups have never been 'hit' (although I confess to having bitten an ear once or twice when play got out of hand). This book is the way forward, and the other 3 books we bought prior to adopting our boys have been pretty much consigned to the litter bin. GOT A DOG? YOU NEED THIS BOOK. GETTING A DOG? GET THIS BOOK FIRST.

Summary: A DO-IT-YOURSELF THAT WORKS FOR DOG OWNERS
Review: I do not own a pet, but have in the past and love dogs. The author got her idea from Monty Roberts (on her own by the way) who wrote a wonderful book about horses. Most anyone should be able to follow the instructions as encompassed in this book as attested to by other critics writing with Amazon here. The solutions to "problem dogs" are most revealing and quite simple in practice. As with anything else you must be persistent and loving. This is an interesting story and of great value for any dog owning person.

Summary: The Dog Listener
Review: Wonderful book! The methods explained by Jan are easy to do and they work! I have a very well adjusted and behaved dog thanks to Jan and her meothods. The book is very easy reading and entertaining as well as useful.

Summary: One star off for style.
Review: My dogs love the method. One in particular was delighted to give up responsibility for me.

The big news from her is contained in the assertion that separation anxiety problems in dogs are not the product of wondering where Mommy and Daddy are, but rather frantically worrying about the dogs' children--i.e., the people who think they're the owners. And that to me makes it different from all the other books who tell you that you need to be the alpha in your household.

I haven't reread the first part, but I wasn't impressed the first time by her science. It would be nice to have had a table on the four steps of Amichien Bonding. But Major thinks it's wonderful. For the first time he reminds me of the ritual of going for a walk.

Summary: The Dog Listener
Review: Entertaining, informative & so easy to practice. Every dog owner or prospective dog owner should read this book to get a clue as to what makes a dog tick. I do pet sitting & have practiced what I read on some of the dogs that have a problem (usually too excited). It worked! Now we can enjoy our visit rather than just struggling through it.

Summary: This book saved my dogs life.
Review: My dog's behavior was so out of control I had actually taken her to the shelter for a "cool down" weekend to decide if I was capable of managing her myself. My neighbor gave me this book, and after the first few pages I was hooked.

My dog is home again, thank goodness, and we are all learning our respective roles in the family hierchy. It is like having my puppy back again! She is relaxed, enjoyable to be around, she reminds me of why she came to live with me to begin with. This book changed our lives, and saved hers.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Helpful & Positive
Review: It's ok but it took half the book to get to where the action is. I would've liked to read this book without so much personal story telling.
