Rating: Summary: If you read only one book in your life, this is it! Review: I first discovered the Urantia Book over 30 years ago while in New York. I was only 19 years old, if you'll pardon a much used cliché, "It changed my life."If you are; Looking for answers to the deep questions in your life? Wondering how you fit into the universe plan? Wondering why we are here on this little blue planet? Wondering what happens when you die? Wondering if there is life beyond our world? Do you desire a closer and more personal relationship with God? If you answer yes to any of these questions, The Urantia book will assist you in finding those answers and more. With the Urantia book, there is no formal religion or cult to join. The Urantia book is an epochal revelation that will enhance your personal relationship and commitment to God, regardless of your religious background and affiliation. The only thing required from you is faith and an open mind. After over 30 years of studying this book, I can say that it continues to help me grow as a child of God and a citizen of the universe. To help you in your lifelong perusal of this book, I also highly recommend you get "The Urantia Book Concordex," by Clyde Bedell as well as "A History of the Urantia Papers," by Larry Mullins, and Dr. Meredith Sprunger.
Rating: Summary: Fear, racism, sexism: why do teachers recommend this book? Review: I'm a spiritual seeker who has been exposed to various aspects of the New Age movement. Within the New Age community, two books are compared to the Holy Bible for spiritual growth and wisdom: The Urantia Book and A Course In Miracles. Mind you, A Course In Miracles isn't exactly New Age in its teaching -- it isn't obsessed with things like soul roles, spiritual structure, identity by race and gender, UFOs and ETs, angelic government, the duality of creation, the reality of separation, and all the other things that distracts one from true spiritual practice. Unfortunately, the Urantia Book is tinged with all these flaws. You would hope that a message from God and/or the angels is filled with love, joy, beauty, peace, hope, and especially SIMPLICITY. No -- instead, this book reads like a reference document on the structure of the universe and is rooted in the teaching of fear. It contradicts with just about every form of higher wisdom offered to humanity today! Most teachings of high wisdom emphasize the equality of humans, love as being the only real reason for existence, and forgiveness as a tool for salvation. I can't understand how this book gets praised universally among the New Age community....

Rating: Summary: The Greatest Mortal Adventure Ever Conceived is in this Book Review: We humans are curious and adventurous mammals, and we have more than brains to build our lives upon. THE URANTIA BOOK is profoundly disturbing to common, ordinary concepts of theology, genetics, history and science, not to overlook astronomy and politics. The unseen friends of the human race who assembled these far-reaching ideas into this vast volume of wisdom and truth, were determined to help swing humanity into a higher arc of evolution. The text requires a sincere desire to open to new ideas and new concepts of God and human destiny. There is within its pages such undying hope, and such masterful mystery, such a sweep of historic and cosmic causation, that the study of its pages can easily become a life-long preoccupation. I know many people who have utterly turned their lives around, and found their rightful inheritance as children of a loving God by study and application of the gracious wisdom in this mighty Book. Take a peek and you will see what I mean. Godspeed and happy transformation!

Rating: Summary: Lifelong search pays off ! Review: I've been a student of many philosophies for most of my life, and it seems that each time I investigate another branch in the path of spirituality, I am led back to Christ again. This book, though its earthly origins are shrouded in secrecy, has struck a chord of truth so soundly that I am led to believe its message completely, without feeling the least bit diminished in good sense or intellect. Spirituality, after all, cannot be proven by scientific means and this book even restates that fact. If our goals include finding the truth, this revelation seems to be all of it - from A to Z. If answers to the difficult questions are what you seek, this book contains them. It's scholarly, very deep in some places, and full of wonderful surprises. For those who are mired in dogma, this revelation will present serious challenges. For those who know, deep in their souls, that we only had part of the story, this book is the completion of the tale - the greatest story ever told. Hold on to your bootstraps! You're in for an amazing ride.
Rating: Summary: MAY I PLEASE DIRECT THE SEEKER TO THE REVIEW ... Review: ... written June 10th 1999 by the intelligent and sincere individual in California. This review should say it all. Apparently, there is even empirical evidence this book can be measured against. Sounds to me in reading all of this stuff that this book created a something not unlike a 'Course in Miracles' or 'Michael-speaks'-style epidemic for the hyper-metaphysically-inclined. It's a shame. God, give us something else to do with our minds, please. Well, now, I suppose that's up to us, isn't it!
Rating: Summary: Read this book and change your life Review: This book is not like any other you have read. After reading it from cover to cover you will be convinced a human could not have written this work. The complexity and consistency is beyond human reach. The Urantia Book's cosmology seems at once ancient yet futuristic, the spiritual path as old as time yet timeless. This work is the most satisfying religious philosophy on the planet, requiring you to give the gift of yourself to God, to trust God with the trust of a child. There are no theological gaps in this book. Read it at the risk of gaining everything.
Rating: Summary: Never Ceases to Amaze Review: This book is just amazing, whether you believe it's content or not. I provides some valuable lessons, and it's overall sense of knowledge and "out-thereness" is really interesting. I myself am not a religious person, and I don't even believe in God, and I view this book as fiction on some level, but pure intelligence at another.
Rating: Summary: Urantia Book Lacks Beauty, Meaning Review: Having heard of the Urantia book mentioned almost mythologically in the past, I was thrilled to find it on Amazon.com, on my first venture into cyber-purchasing. I read so many glowing reviews of it that I was most confident in my choice to buy it and in fact looked forward to finally reading it for myself. Let me report that I am most awfully disappointed with this "revelation" - and it is not so much a revelation as it is a beaurocratic exercise. More than 2000 thin pages report vaguely and soullessly on the Universe, man, God, and Christ - and the relationships between all of those things - in a volume that I have never seen paralleled in sheer weight, emptiness, and complete absurdity. People complain that religious texts lack for humor - I will concede that you will probably laugh out loud when the stiff-necked celestial officiate "Archangel in collaboration with the Chief of Nebadon Power Centers" solemnly observes: "Calcium is, in fact, the chief element of the matter-permeation of space throughout Orvonton. Our whole superuniverse is sprinkled with minutely pulverized stone ... Calcium possesses an individuality and a longevity excelling all of the more common forms of matter"[ (p. 462). The book continues in like ignorance - surprising from such transcendent immortals, one thinks - for its entire treatise about the universe. Its anthropogenesis is prejudiced, ugly, and utterly disturbing; its vision of the celestial order is more like a corporational flow chart than a theophany. Leaving its scientific blindness aside, the Urantia book is a labor to read. It is devoid completely of any real literary beauty. Metaphor like the metaphors of the Song of Solomon, symbolism like that of the Upanishads, even the pure fervor and passion of the Quran - all these are absent in the Urantia book. One who enjoys reading this book would probably also enjoy reading, say, grocery lists or inventories, technical manuals or cold mechanic textbooks. The distant robotic angels who have revealed this cumbersome holy book have the personalities and writing styles of ATM units. I have found this book to be entirely devoid of meaning. Its scope is limited and it is not new - thousands of other books, more beautiful and fluent at that - have suggested that Christ's religion was misinterpreted, that God is multiplex, and that we are in a complex spiritual evolution. Please, please, before or after reading this book read "Isis Unveiled" by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky - THAT is a true work for our age and a luminous arrow leading to our society's advancement. The Urantia book will only lead you in circles.
