Summary: An stupendous achievement, not to be taken too seriously...
Review: The Urantia Book is a book purported to be channeled by celestial beings as a revelation of the ultimate cosmic truth. Well, I don't think so. I think Dr. Mathew Sadler wrote all 2097 pages. Taken as a work of human imagination and creativity, a sort of vast mythological/historical novel -- the Urantia Book is one of the most impressive literary achievements of all time. The fourth section alone, perhaps the most detailed rendition of the Life of Christ, is stupendous. The rest of the book which basically is a cosmoslogy that expands far beyond the skimpy mythology of the Bible, is a masterpiece of storytelling and metaphysical speculation. There's hardly a page of this massive tome that isn't intriguing and thought-provoking. This is an incredible book. Having said all this, you might ask how come I didn't rate this a '10' instead of an '8'? Well, my literary complaints are minor: 1) The language at times is convoluted and pretentious. 2) The different "voices" sound too similar. My main problem with the Urantia book is really not with the book itself. The Urantia Book has become something of a new-age bible, and people are running around proclaiming it as absolute truth, and forming cults. I think it's obvious that the book is the imaginative work of a single author. To present this book as anything else I think is unconscionable, and probably immoral. As far as comparison with other works, The Urantia book lacks the humour of Mark Twain's "Letters To The Earth", and lacks the subtlety and simple elegance of Norman Mailer's "The Gospel According To The Son". But It must be said that The Urantia Book was a far more ambitious project that succeeded, perhaps succeeded too well.

Review: I have read the Urantia Book from cover to cover and will attest that it is the single most profound piece of literature that I have ever had the pleasure to lay my hands on. If you have always had a personal belief that there is more to God than they teach in church this book is for you! If you are a searcher of truth this book will take you on a spiritual journey that will boggle your mind and thrill you beyound your wildest expectations.

Summary: Changing Channels
Review: When channeling information from beyond it pays to know the source of your information. While some of this book is compelling it is worthwhile to remember that the most compelling lie is the one that's mixed with a healthy dose of the truth. This book saves it's lies, and I do believe that they are intentional lies for the most sacred aspects of our existence. If you want to spend a year delving deeper into secular humanism and the idea that you're just a fly speck in the eyes of God then pick this book up. Otherwise save the 5 pounds of wear and tear on your bookshelf and buy something else with your money.

Review: The Urantia Book is a comprehensive, consistent guide to the origin, nature and destiny of humankind. Contains planetary history and a detailed account of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth, and much much more. A must for any serious student of religion and philosophy.

Summary: Years of study have left me very uncomfortable with this
Review: Do not read this book without its companion by Martin Gardner. Despite any hype regarding its origin or supposed breadth, it was developed by men, with all of their biases clearly revealed. It is intriguing for all of us who want to understand far beyond the sunday school version of Chrisitianity . However this is not what is purported by its adherents. An interesting ride but not the answer. I would particularly admonish people of color not to take this one seriously. You decide after reading both.

Review: If you really want to know and understand what Jesus taught while he was alive not so long ago, you might want to read this book. Part IV, The Life and Teachings of Jesus is just facinating. Review: In the mind of the mortals of Urantia (that being the true name of your planet) there exists a great spiritual confusion concerning the nature of God, Deity, and Divinity. This book 'with perseverance' will dispel ALL worldly confusion concerning same. Having participated in its teachings ('thoughts for our consideration') for over a third of a century i recommend the third part - first. The last half deals with the psychology of spirituality - which is usually what most seekers are after. The first and second parts of the book are rather 'meaty' pertaining to the 'spiritual organisation' of the entire Super-universe structure which is far 'more vast' than are primitive analysis has revealed, so far. Altho, we are making tremendous progress in the later part of the 20th century. Most scientists now recognize multiple universes. This book mentioned that nearly 50 years ago! The first half of Part Three deals wholly with the 'biological evolution' of the planet Earth as witnessed from the day of its birth in ' step-by- step ' detail more comprehensive and undeniably interesting than anything else ever published before. From the precise roots of man and woman to the extinction of the dinosaurs to firsthand accounts of Buddha, Lao-Tzu and many other of our greatest teachers throughout our history. If you have ever had 'scientific' doubts about the bible rendition of the man named 'Jesus' then the Part Four gives the 'very best' rendition of 'the truth' regarding this highly mis-understood God-man who was never even closely comprehended by his apostles, or, even, his own mother. In the Bible He often said: "Verily, verily I say unto you" He meant: 'Do you not yet understand???' This book is 'the answer' to that two thousand year struggle of mis-understanding. (according to the authors) Until recently, (20th Century) we were not yet evolved enough as a human race to comprehend the deeper meanings of -'why we exist' 'where we are headed' 'what is the purpose of life' 'where we come from' and 'what is it we can do' - this book answers all those questions better than anything the planetary races has made available to the general public ------- so far. If you want 'Eternal Life' this is the greatest book of 'instructions' ever 'laid out' before the minds of All Humankind. It isn't written in a "paint-by-numbers" context. Summary: The Greatest book you'll ever read and keep!
Review: The Urantia Book is a meaty volume of spiritual and historical information. It is 2,097 pages of non-stop revelation. There are sections that just jumped out at me like the Jesus Papers, the papers on angels and our spiritual government. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in expanding their spiritual horizons. It changed my life!
