Summary: IMPERATIVE
Review: An ecological and philosophical tour de force, the message of this book is so profound, timely and NECESSARY for the survival of our world that I currently recommend over my other reviews. Between the covers, you will discover a vast synthesis of historical, philosophical and ecological wisdom, all grounded in hard, modern science. The writing style is fluid and engaging, not overly technical. At once easy enough for the layperson and yet detailed and synthetic enough to amaze the overly-technical specialist. An instant classic, I am looking forward to getting upcoming, 2004 revised edition. I cannot overemphasize the importance of this book.

Summary: Buy it for yourself and all your friends
Review: Hartman has a very clear and easy way to explain the state of the world. He covers so many topics, each one well researched with plenty of references. This book has changed my life like no other book has. It is hard to read this book without thinking how can I make a change? This is not the usual book that tells you how bad things are, this tells you what to do about it.

***If you read this book and want to be part of the cooperation and not the domination, You must also read Natural Capitalism by Hawken.

SPREAD THE WORD!

Summary: Great Book on what you can do to save the World
Review: This is the best book I've read on the state of the planet and more importantly what we can do about it. Most similar books of this type leave the reader feeling depressed and hopeless about what they can do. Thom Hartmann has presented the sad facts on the state of the world, but then gives us a framework on which we can change and save it.

Very inspiring, once you have read this, your view of the world will be changed forever.

Please buy it, Read it, and then Share it with your friends.

Summary: STRANGE
Review: So I didn't even have to buy this book. I had a package sent to me with a return Address Thom Hartman...

I thought the book was very good. Quite similar to Mutant Message From down under.
I would read Mutant message first and then Thoms book. Its nice to read a story first and then have all the facts laid out afterwards.

Summary: a great book

Summary: An Outstanding, Important Book
Review: Thom Hartman has written a very important book, full of insights, ideas and historical perspective on the fate of the human race upon this earth. He caught me right from the beginning with the "in your face" statement about what has happened in the last 24 hours on earth. 200,000 acres of rainforest have been destroyed, 45,000 people starved to death, 130 species have become extinct, the largest mass extinction since the dinosaurs vanished. That hit me like a ton of bricks.

But the book is not just an alarmists call towards conservation. It deals with food supplies, water supplies and population growth. The book explains how the earth's population is stressing the resources. How our advancements have caused different problems. Such as antibiotics and our misuse creating different strains that resist our antibiotics. It discusses religion, meditation, foreign country's ideas, topsoil loss, tribes versus city-states. The importance of trees and the detriments of fertilizer. The effects of global warming. How big business effects government.

The list is endless. The harm is obvious and the ideas to presented could be helpfull. This is a great book that should be read by every adult. Information is the key to survival. This book is full of information.

Summary: This book is leading the way
Review: The recommandation written by Neale Donald Walsch on the book cover attracted my attention "One of the most important books you will ever read". Decided to buy it. For me this is one of these intuitive decisions that create a shift in one's awareness. This truely is one of the best books I ever read! The book is very well written. The story very clear: modern civilization is speeding towards a massive rock wall with a speed of 150 miles/ p hour. I knew it, read about it and lived my life without doing anything... Like most of us. What for me is the essence of this book is to link spirituality & personal development to sustainable living. Thoughts I had for many years on life and society fall into place. Where else can we find the solution of this global problem than within ourselves?
I now understand how important the work that I and many others do on personal development, training people and raising awareness.

When I first started realising how much more interesting nature is than a concrete jungle it changed my life... and is still changing.
Of course new ways have to be found to solve the problems we stand for. Thom Hartmann gives ideas. Suggests us where to look without being dogmatic. It certainly apeals more to me than just protesting against logging of trees. As an economist I know the power of the capitalist model. The companies that do this are no entities with a soul. They are merely machines fuelled by money and with a goal to make more money. Raising awareness with the people working for all these corporations all over the world can change this behaviour. A change from "I didn't do it" towards "I decided and will do it again if needed". Smart people courageous and visionaries always lead the way. Thom Hartmann is one of them.

Summary: Simplistic but still a call to heed.
Review: For some odd reason, I prefer to have to think through the things I'm reading and come to my own conclusions. (I'm trying to get over that!) Mr. Hartmann's book seemed rather transparently simple in that regard so my enjoyment of the subject matter was somewhat diminished. However, there is no question that Mr. Hartmann's is issueing a call that we must heed: get over our dependence on fossil fuels (ancient sunlight) or be prepared to suffer the consequences. Regardless of how simple or complex the message, I heartily agree. And the sooner, the better.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Must for Survival
Review: For the sake of our children's survival, everyone should read this book. Mr. Hartmann does very thorough research before writing his books and this one may be the most important book written for the future of mankind.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Amazing
Review: One of the clearest books of self awareness. It's just impressive.
Of course only if it finds you.
