Rating: Summary: Can you have a 10 star category for truely exceptional books Review: This book is absolutely necessary reading for everyone. I wish they taught courses with this book in our public schools. It is easy to read and comprehend, yet contains a wealth of indespensible information. When you read this book you will gain an understanding of food and its relation to your body that will change your view of the world. Fully worth the asking price and more. I would reccomend the hard back because you will be using this book regularly for years to come.
Rating: Summary: ten stars! Review: This book is amazing, Paul Pitchford is amazing and I am going to give away all of my other books on food and nutrition. Mr Pitchford comes from a place of such clarity and truth that this book is just a joy to have and to read and to reference. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in their health and the health of their family.
Rating: Summary: Healing With Whole Foods Review: This book is fabulous. It saved me from surgery. In the process of following his guidelines for a gall-bladder flush diet, I lost close to 50 pounds effortlessly. He knows foods, how to combine them and how they affect the human body. An outstanding book.
Rating: Summary: No home should be without Review: This book is great for anyone who is open minded and wants to take control over their health. Chinese medicine has been around for ages and doesnt need a lab to know it works. This book is awesome.
Rating: Summary: This book is my faithful friend! Review: This book literally changed my life! I was desperately seeking an alternative to doctors and drugs and happened to choose this book at the bookstore. I couldn't put it down. The Oriental approach was fascinating and captivating. I've applied what I learned and my health and life has dramatically improved. I no longer rely on modern Western medicine. I feel that I am in charge of my own health through eating properly. I have read it cover to cover once, but I am (almost daily!) constantly referring back to it for information on certain foods and their effect on our condition. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in taking charge of their own life and spirituality and health.

Rating: Summary: Excellent... Review: This is a great book whichs contains a lot of concrete advice. There are are many dietary suggestions for a wide range of ailments and one does not need to have any background in Taoism or Ayurvedic foods to use the book. One of the most important points is repeated often: reduce consumption!
One can learn a great deal in a number of areas from reading the book including basic nutrition, the afore-mentioned traditions, and food preparation. Hihgly recommended.
Rating: Summary: True Healing Review: This is an extraordinary book. I got the book because I have an interest in nutrition and found the oriental traditions very fascinating. This book actually ended up helping me avoid surgery. I had pain in my upper right abdomen for several months which I tried to ignore. After several weeks of increased pain which was debilitating, I went to my internist. The end result was an ultrasound where I found out I had lots of small gallstones including a very large one. Needless to say, I was scheduled for surgery to remove my gallbladder. Thinking that I had nothing to lose, I decided to follow this book's instructions on dissolving large gallsones before I resorted to surgery. Within several days, the daily pain went away. My stones have disappeared. It has been one year and I feel great.
Rating: Summary: Exceptional and pragmatic teaching tool for healers Review: This is possibly the best instructional book of any I have ever read. Pritchford conveys the tenets of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), modern nutrition, biology and spitituality in this primer for healing arts. This book teaches the symptoms and causes of illness and makes clear recommendations about foods and herbs that should be used to lessen the impacts of toxicity and bring the sick back to health. I have used it extensively and have bought several copies for others, the latest for someone who is responsible for cooking for adolescents in a halfway house for substance abusers. About 1/4 of the book is recipes. Book is extremely well indexed for relationships between disease and herbs/foods that minimize impact of disease. I have used this book to learn basic - but very solid - understanding of energetic balances between diet, psyche and spirit. Well footnoted with current research. It is a must have.
