Rating: Summary: a physician suffering with chronic back pain Review: i found the book very easy to read for the layperson and very well written from a scientific viewpoint. the exercises have already begun to gradually increase my mobility and decrease the pain. it is a great read for all back pain sufferers to gain an insight into their problem
Rating: Summary: Knowlegable about exercises Review: I have not yet read the book in question, but I read the review from the person questioning the validity of the MDs research. I have seen the program on television, and, as a physcial therapist, I can tell you that most of the exercises I saw being performed were exercises that are fairly standard to physical therapy practice.
Rating: Summary: lee, lee, reader Review: I liked this book and bought one for my mom she is in her 60's it's not hard to do the exercises. with that said I think for anyone younger I strongly recommend a book by Dr. Adam Weiss called the Backsmart Fitness Plan- I was lucky enough to go to one of his semianrs in New York last year and my friends and I were amazed how we felt after doing his workout- we felt relaxed and stretched out while at the same time we worked out our entire bodies in just under an hour workout! I an glad to see he has written this book- If you want to get into shape and get rid of your aches and pains this book I recomend.
Rating: Summary: Now just a minute.... Review: The book boasts, "After three months, the results have been striking: 80%... reported that their pain was reduced by at least half." I looked up the author of this book on Medline (database of the National Library of Medicine, the worlds largest medical library) to see what he has published on back pain. I could only find 2 studies he did on back pain- both were on epidural steroid injections in the back. Since I could not find any controlled studies done on Pilates/Yoga and back pain published in a respected medical journal, I'm wondering where the proof is. Or is this just another book taking advantage of the poor person with chronic back pain and the recent Pilates craze?

Rating: Summary: peter Review: There only a handful of exercies in this book? they are very basic and anyone who has gone to a therapist knows more than this book has to offer. Try a diffrent book with more to offer.

Rating: Summary: excellent, thorough and well written Review: this is a very well written book with a great clinically proven exercise program. contrary to one of the reviews, the search shows that this program was well researched and presented at a prestigious national physician conference american academy of physical medicine and rehabilitation in chicago. i commend the authors for putting out a solid and clinically proven exercise program.
Rating: Summary: Still looking for a good yoga book in CA Review: While I am glad that this type of book helped the reviewers who gave it high marks - anyone who has been to physical therapy for their back pain has been given the exercises that were covered. After looking through the content cover to cover, only 2-3 positions would qualify as "yoga" and the rest would fall under "floor exercises" or "home exercise program." I think the title was misleading as I was looking for a book showing yoga positions in succession of difficulty w/ clear explanations on how to graduate more advanced positions based on your skill level and back issues. This was not the book I thought it was going to be.
