Summary: BFL Journal!! Worth it's weight in gold!!
Review: This journal has REALLY helped me to stay focused on my Body For Life challenge!! You can record your goals for the 12 weeks and everyday goals then record whether you achieved them!! I enjoy the success stories and the motivation from Bill Phillips for every day. Even Bill Phillips before and after photos are on day one! You don't even recognize him in his before photo!
This journal focuses on "Improvement, not Perfection"!! I HIGHLY recommend this journal to ANYONE who is going for the Body-for-Life challenge or just wanting to make your life and body the best it has ever been!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An important component of a successful workout program
Review: This well-organized Success Journal based on sound behavior-change principles has made the difference for me in getting back into weight training and aerobic workouts. I have piles of exercise books and videos, and I used to work out religiously, but I have "been meaning to" get back into working out since a major surgery a year ago. There is something about writing down daily goals and then rating oneself on success each day which is keeping me on track and has me feeling optimistic that I will really stick with it this time. I also like the pages which allow me to write down what I eat each day, and to keep track of exactly what I have done with weights, etc., as it will be great to have a bound copy of information showing my progress.

The exercises and diet information are all based on sound information. My only "complaints" about the exercises is that not all of us have access to all the types of machines that are illustrated, and I wish he had included more free weight alternatives for the various muscle groups. I also wish that he had provided some realistic sample plans for those of us, including women, who are not able to start out pushing around the amounts of weight he lists in his sample workouts. The weight training might seem daunting for those who have never trained in this manner before, but his descriptions of the exercises are very thorough and clear.

This may seem like a pricey and unnecessary component to the main Body for Life book, but it makes the difference for me. I will probably buy another copy of it after I'm done with the initial twelve weeks and continue using it to keep myself motivated.

Summary: Success Journal - perfect title!
Review: Whether you are a novice at the Body for Life challenge or an experience veteran, this Success Journal is an important part of making the Challenge experience a positive one. It requires you to really get involved in the challenge, tracking your progress on two fronts: physical (the training and nutrition) and mental (your focus and on helping others).

By actively filling out all the sections of the journal, you keep the changes you're experiencing in the forefront. It's easy to just focus on the workouts, but the mental and nutrition parts of this program are equally if not more important.

I've completed two official challenges and 3 unofficial ones, and though I've gotten great results so far, I feel using this Success Journal will enable me to surpass my previous Success and finally achieve my goals.

I cannot recommend this Journal highly enough. I really like the amount of detail, the success stories included throughout the book, and Bill's comments for each day. It's highly motivating, inspiring, and a terrific addition to a Body For Life challenge.

Summary: Make sure you like and are committed to the format.
Review: While I am a Body for Life devotee, I do not find that the journal is compatable with my needs. The journal is set up so that Day 1 (upper body workout) appears on the first two pages. The next two pages are for Day 2 (aerobics). Day 3 is two pages for lower body. I prefer to keep my progress on a single page for upper body and another page for lower body. This way I can easily see at a glance where I have improved and where I have been slacking. Also, as a new page is created for each workout, you must rewrite your lifting program each time. If you generally keep the same program for 4 to 6 weeks, the book requires a lot of additional writing time.

Too, if for some reason you need to change up the order of your days you are stuck jumping around in the journal. For instance, I started the journal on a lower body workout day, so I had to start the journal on Day 3. If, however, these are not concerns of yours, the journal is a nice thing to have.

Summary: And I needed this because....?
Review: While I'm a huge BFL fan and believe it is the ONLY successful weight loss program out there and I think Bill Phillips rocks, this journal was NOT helpful. I need something I can put my own things in (pictures, for example). I needed to reorganize the pages to make it more user-friendly. I did not follow his workout days as my schedule starts with cardio instead of weights. Plus, there are only SO MANY daily goals you can have before you need a rubber stamp pre-printed with "Sign onto the BFL website" or "Drink enough water". I prefer the regular BFL book and my own binder, thank you very much...
