Rating: Summary: Loved _The Third Wave_!!! Review: This is one of the most comprehensive syntheses I have ever read. It is on a par with Gregory Bateson's _Steps To An Ecology of Mind_ in its scope and breadth. The premise -- that all of the seemingly chaotic and unrelated trends are actually part of a megatrend (to borrow John Naisbitt's nomenclature) -- is nothing short of revolutionary. One would do well to read this tome, which lays out the problems and some of the solutions of our era.
Rating: Summary: One of the Great Books Review: Toffler creates an paradigm shift for anyone who read this book. I 've read these books 3 times. Every time I read it I still get something new.
Rating: Summary: Tired Trilogy Review: Toffler's Third Wave uses a bizarre expression of Marxist theory to interpret the obvious: that societies differ in their stages of development and progress in ways that put them in conflict. Readers would have been better served had he condensed the many hundreds of pages into a short story or op-ed article. The analysis is shallow.
Rating: Summary: A pivotal book by a true scientific genius Review: When I started this book, I could not put it down before I finished it. For a month after that, I could not think of anything else but what I have read, and for the next twenty years I had countless occasions to see that the book was profoundly right. The book was written for a lay reader, simple and fun to read, and yet, I am sure that it will be seen as one of the most influential science books of the 20th century. History and sociology have two periods: before and after The Third Wave by Alvin Toffler.
