Rating: 4 stars
Summary: a story that shows what mother nature can due to mortal men
Review: I thought the author developed the story quite well and it paralleled a historic fiction story. Seems like I was there on the fishing boat when the storm hit.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Book, but it might keep you up a night!
Review: This was a great book! The author does such a good job describing the town and the characters that you begin to feel bad for them because you know that at any page turn they could be in danger. Except for getting a little too detailed in the weather pattern descriptions, the book was great from start to finish.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Read it in one sitting.
Review: Terrifying. I'll never again think of the sea without recalling this book and its descriptions of those waves.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting stuff but VERY slow reading
Review: The author does a good job explaining everything, but the book is dry and makes it for slow reading. I would only recommend it if you're interested on the subject.

Summary: This is a GREAT book!
Review: I truly enjoyed The Perfect Storm. I am an avid reader, and also a lifelong resident of Gloucester. Although I have grown up with the fishing industry surrounding me, this book was an eye opener. To the people who do not believe that the 100 foot waves were real, I would like to say that I watched waves crash near the roof of a building, and eventually pull a part of that building into the water. This building was located on the beach in a sheltered cove. All in all The Perfect Storm is a great book and I really enjoyed reading it, as well as Jon Krakauer's Into Thin Air and Into the Wild. I think that if you enjoyed either of them, you will also like The Perfect Storm. Its a good read.

Summary: fantastic for sea buffs
Review: Reading this book will definately broden your sea going knowledge. I really never thought much about reading a book about the everyday life of a New England fisherman, but I'm glad I decided to read this book. It is one of those stories that will leave you wondering "What happened".

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: cold facts stirred into an emotionally hot stew
Review: this story begins with the grim details of the life of a fisherman but escalates into a gripping tale of the hapless vicims of a perfect storm. I liked the mix of "story telling" with the factual descriptions of the physics of wave action, wind patterns etc. I'm still shivering and I finished it two weeks ago!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: INCREDIBLE
Review: The Perfect Storm nearly made me fail all my final exams, I couldn't put it down. This is for anyone who knows the sea, and respects her for all her powers. A must on everyones list.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: The Perfect Storm is almost the perfect book
Review: I really loved this book. Not only does it tell a gripping and harrowing story, it also provides tons of interesting background information on the fishing industry and storm development. That may not sound all that interesting but Junger pulls it off extremely well. I nearly finished the book in one sitting. The only thing that could have made this book better would be more illustrations or graphics to help explain some of the technical details.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Thrilling narrative that reads like fiction
Review: The Perfect Storm is far from the perfect book but it is an enjoyable and thrilling story that easily reads like fiction. Although the auhor only really begins to find his cadence by the third chapter, the story of a doomed swordfish boat and its crew that against all odds try to survive a meterological phenomena is riviting. Careful to balance the technical with the human, the author brings to life the myriad forces at work that bring fishers and the perfect storm to a crescendo of ferocious drama. Woven carefully around the central story are the people and vessels inextricably linked by the awesome forces of nature that descend on the eastern seaboard in what had been described as the storm of the century. If you enjoyed "Into Thin Air" by Jon Krakauer, you will find this book equally difficult to put down.
