Summary: Riveting book, but wish there was less technical detail.
Review: I really enjoyed the book, and at times couldn't put it down. Some of the technical details were a bit much for me, but I found that I could skim over them and still understand what was happening. Junger sure shows how frightening and powerful this very real storm was, while teaching the reader about the commercial fishing industry as well as the demanding occupation of rescue workers.

Summary: this book holds the reader captive
Review: a very interesting account of a fishermans life. The story is very exciting and the mix of technical information is very interesting. I thought the writing was a bit choppy {no pun intended). But a must read!

Summary: good beginning and end, lost steam in the middle.
Review: Good beginning and end but lost me in the middle. When I first started this book I could not put it down, it slows down in the middle but regains momentum in the end.

Summary: Maybe I'm being tough after reading Into Thin Air
Review: Jon Krakauer's masterly prose, first person narrative and concise writing, IMHO, makes a far superior analysis and "can't put down" read than this book. While both stories are different and equally tragic, I found this book not in the same league in terms of organization or style.

Summary: Overall Comments
Review: A very interesting read, however, Junger went overboard (pardon the pun) with the fishing jargon and technical talk and that, unfortunately, kept the book from being as good as it would have been.

Summary: A real find - a rare surprise
Review: Recommended to me by a friend, I was obliged to read it so I could answer my friend's query if asked later. It was a blow-out wonderful read. The TV show made based on the book was OK, but not close to the excitement of this text. If you try it, you won't be sorry!

Summary: A true adventure tale of men on the high seas
Review: This book has captured me like no book I've ever read before. When you first start reading it, Junger's descriptions surround you like you're really there. It is a bone-chilling story that leaves you with the scent of the salty sea air hanging behind you. I would have rated this book five stars, except I think that some of the background information and details were boring.

Summary: A fascinating exploration of men, culture and nature.
Review: A Perfect Storm is enjoyable on several fronts. First, it is an interesting study of the culture of the New England fishermen who inhabit the pages. It provides an honest look into the lives, hopes and demons of these men. Second, it is packed with fascinating information on the power of wind and water. I have a new appreciation for the strength of a storm. Thirdly, though it is a story which pulls at the heart with its reality of life and death, it still left me with a feeling of courage and hope. The men who so willingly put their own lives at risk to save strangers are inspiring. The acts of the rescuers speak strongly to man's humanity. Qualities which reflect the image of God.

Summary: I enjoyed this book so well, that I read it twice!
Review: WARNING! If you are afraid of the water, then don't read this book. I love sailing but this story almost ruined it for me. The Author did an excellent job of taking me out to sea in a cat.2 hurricane where I "died" with the rest of the crew on a 70' sword boat. I liked reading "Rescue in the Pacific" and "Fastnet Force 10", but this book carried me to a level of terror at sea where it became almost too real for comfort.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I could not put it down! Wonderful book.
Review: Very detailed and expressive. A nail bighting journey. You will learn a lot. Read this book!
