Summary: Alan Bean : Painter/Astronaut
Review: A truly magnificent portayal of mans greatest achievement. I followed Apollo 12 as a 14 year old kid back in 1969 and the wonderment of those flights to the moon has never left me. Seeing Bean's paintings puts me on the surface of the moon better than any photograph could. I advise anyone interested in America's Manned Space Program or the History of Art to buy this book. Unlike some of the reviewers in this section, I believe the astronauts of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs went on their journeys for ALL of us, not just to enable the United States to beat the Soviet Union to the moon - we must look at things far deeper than that.

Summary: Thanks Mr. Bean for sharing Apollo 12/lunar experience!
Review: Alan Bean deserves a lot of praise for his books! At least he and a select {few} other moonwalkers/travelers are open and willing so graciously; to tell the human race about what it was like up and way out there! I f only more astronauts would so unselfishly give of their time, talents and knowledge of Apollo like Mr. Bean has, I well-know that more funding would have been allocated for more Apollo missions and Skylab! Thanks Mr. Bean for sharing the experiencein pictures, paintings and words!

Summary: Outstanding First Hand Look At Space
Review: Alan Bean is an incredible artist - after looking at this book, I was inspired to purchase one of his prints. His work jumps out at you from the pages, and inspires!

Summary: A stunningly beautiful book
Review: Alan Bean's unique artistic vision is beautifully presented in this book. Bean's art thoroughly supplements the pounds of moonrocks and racks of datatapes as payback for the Apollo program, and the book is the first comprehensive collection of his work. Bean's first hand stories of Apollo 12, and Chaikin's text provide an adequate refrence for the pictures... but the pictures are the story. The Apollo program may well be the defining event for all the 20th century, and Alan Bean's artwork captures the humanity of the moon landings in a way that is instantly comprehendable on a very human level. I won't be shocked if, 100 years from now, Alan Bean's paintings of the early days of theexploration of space is treasured along side Thomas Moran's paintings of the American West.

Summary: Truth revealed through art - Finally !
Review: As a seeker of Truth, and an amature researcher of lunar anomalies for over 40 years, I praise the courage of Alan Bean to portray through his fine art what the "up close & personal" view of the moon surface and heavens really looks like! Prizmatic colors and geometric structures are portrayed abounding all around the Apollo landing site. Not the dull gray dirty sand colored lifeless terrain that NASA photographs have put forth all these years. Interesting that the heavens viewed from the lunar surface has been described before as a deep velvet black yet astronaut Alan Bean refers to it as "patent leather" black. Could we read between his lines that the lunar skies from the surface were viewed "through" shimmering crystal architectural structures?--unthinkable! til now. For a stunning review of this book I compel readers to go to www.enterprisemission.com (page date 1-07-01) Thank you and God bless you Alan Bean. ALOHA!

Summary: This book needs no words/pictures explain it all!
Review: i have purchased many, many PROJECT APOLLO books in the last 20 years; but when it comes to astronaut/explorer/painter-Alan Bean, theres simply no comparison! Mr. Bean has always been my astronaut/idol/hero, and id give anything to be able to meet him--all my life, since apollo 12!. This book needs no words to make the reader, or anyone feel like he or she is actually on the Moon! Thanks Mr. Bean for being one of the Moonwalkers to care enough to bring the Moon to those of us that will never be able to get there; but always dreamed of going there! Thanks to you and this book, people will always know what the Moon experience is, and is all about. Also, thanks for allowing those of us to own a piece [IN YOUR BOOK] OF YOUR PRICELESS ART! Fantastic! Wish I could own and find a copy of your other book: My Life As An Astronaut!

Summary: An inspiring view of the Apollo program
Review: I have read all of the Apollo astronauts' accounts of their journeys, and this book adds something different. Alan Bean gives a unique view of the United States' greatest adventure. His paintings renewed my excitement for our space program. The narratives that go with the paintings are genuine and speak to every American. This book will inspire young people to be proud of our space achievements--a quality that both the news media and our politicians sorely lack these days. Bean's love of the space program is displayed by the colors and settings of his works. Many times, Bean reminds us that Apollo was an act of all of America, not just the astronauts. From a space enthusiast's point of view, we need more books like this!
