Summary: Tears of The Hawk
Review: Barbara Clark has crafted a fine romance novel with many twists, turns, and genuine pathos. This romance has everything. Tears of The Hawk is a face-paced novel with multiple layers of suspense, paranormal elements and action. Readers who enjoy unique characters will find both the hero and heroine people they can related to on one level or another. In particular I enjoyed the independent heroine with definite vulnerabilities that get her into trouble. She's intelligent, but she's very human. The hero is the proverbial "to die for," but his vulnerabilities are one of the things that make him a heroic character. With a unique story line the author provides readers with just the right mix of surprises to keep a reader awake far into the night. I hope to see more great works from Barbara Clark in the new future. --Denise A. Agnew, author of BRIDGE THROUGH THE MIST.

Summary: Tears Of The Hawk
Review: Charity Starr has hidden the psychic power she was blessed with at
birth. Denying it, fighting it, until the time comes that she
can fight no longer.
As a scientist, her research into harnessing the vast reaches of solar
power has drawn the attention of the wrong people, and the
kidnapping attempts on her are increasing. During one such attempt to
kidnap her, and the information she carries, her enemies
are sent scurrying by security specialist Hawk Adams. Hawk's strength,
passion, and his own psychic bond with Charity will
draw them deeper into the passions raging between them, even as the
danger begins to draw closer to her.
Charity fears the strength of her gifts when she's in Hawk's arms, and
her inability to hide from the empathetic power she
possess. As Charity's research progresses, and betrayal comes with
increasingly regularity, she's forced to admit her need for
Hawk's protection and his warmth. But nothing can halt the plans
against her, and as her enemies move steadily closer, the
love binding them will intensify, and strengthen the power she will need
to save not just herself, but Hawk as well.
Tears Of The Hawk will keep you turning page after page, drawn into the
murky depths of a shadowed plot of revenge and greed
even as Charity and Hawk are drawn closer together in their need for
each other. Ms. Clark has blended Earth magic, and
passion to create a deeply moving tale of love and danger. Will Hawk
succeed in saving the woman he's waited a lifetime to
hold? Or will Charity's stubbornness, and her inability to accept the
gifts she's been given be their ultimate downfall?
Three stars for the heat and passion that fill the pages of this book,
and a story that will warm your heart long after you've lain it
down again. Despite the feeling of being through many of the scenes,
Ms. Clark has still yet managed to hold true to her
characters, and to keep them on a steady course that leads them through
love, danger, and an awakening of the powers held by
both Charity, and Hawk as their hearts and souls awaken to each other,
and bond in a way that neither will ever be free of.

Summary: Must Read
Review: Dreams of violence years ago still shatters Hawk Adams' calm, even half a world away on the coast of Southern California. Restlessness leads to a walk in the park where he finds Charity Starr fighting off thugs intent upon kidnapping and theft. But Charity resourcefully fights back, determined to protect the vital information on her laptop. A gifted scientist, Charity's research into harnessing the vast reaches of solar energy has drawn dangerous attention.

A powerful empath, Charity fears the incredible power of her gifts when in Hawk's arms. Since a teenager, Charity has maintained a careful control over her gift, but Hawk's disarming presence forces her to drop barriers. Soon, she knows, she must reveal the nature of her gift to Hawk, which will bring about incredible challenges when Hawk comes to believe his very touch can pose a danger to Charity. Further, as betrayals and dangers escalate, only Charity's gifts can save both her and the man she is coming to love.

Barbara Clark's series, Sons of Earth and Wind, makes a powerful beginning with TEARS OF A HAWK. Although the pace is a bit uneven, Clark nonetheless pens a gripping tale with a powerful plot and strong characterizations. Charity quickly recognizes her vulnerability to this strong man with such a deeply troubled soul. Hawk mistrusts her gifts, his desire, and his ability to stay away from her. Their growing passion provides some delightfully heated moments. TEARS OF A HAWK is intriguing romantic suspense with its hint of the paranormal, coming highly recommended.

Summary: Paranormal At Its Best!
Review: Hawk Adams could brave anything but love for a woman. After rescuing Charity Starr from her enemies, he unknowingly puts her in mortal danger himself when in her hospital room he opens her paranormal abilities and expands them to dangerous levels. Throughout the book, Hawk's lack of trust for Charity endangers and pains her greatly, not just physically but emotionally as well. Sexual tension grows between them as they face each other and the people who want to kill Charity. Slowly but surely a bond forms and love blooms in their hearts for one another. Hawk needs Charity to heal his wounded heart, and Charity needs Hawk to love her and complete her fully.

Ms. Clark's characters are outstanding and unforgettable in this dramatic tale of love and peril. They are so real that they live and breathe within you. Hawk and Charity are so true to life you can almost forget it is only a book. Such a splendid job Ms. Clark!...

Summary: NO WAY!
Review: Hawk Adams violent dreams are keeping him awake again, and while walking in the park in the early dawn hours, he finds Charity Starr attempting to fight off a couple of thugs trying to kidnap her. Charity, a renowned scientist, is wanted for her solar energy research. Charity has kept a tight reign on her empathic powers for many years, and while recovering in the hospital, realizes Hawk has a psychic link with her, one so powerful if could destroy her. Will Hawk ever be able to completely trust a woman again, and what is this special feeling of protectiveness he has for Charity? Numerous kidnapping attempts are made on Charity, and with each attempt it is clear these people aren't giving up. Through the process, Hawk and Charity learn to trust, heal one another, love and protect. This is an outstanding story of intrigue, and the passion builds as the relationship between Charity and Hawk intensifies. This was an excellent read, and the mix of paranormal was so well blended in to the story. I did not want this book to end, but knowing that Book IV of "Sons of Earth and Wind" was released in January gives us more of the same to look forward to! Grab the first three in this series and enjoy!

Summary: NO WAY!
Review: I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but someone has to step forward with a true review of this book. Come on people! Why didn't somebody warn me before I paid what I did for this book? At least I only bought the first book and not the rest of the series (shudder). This book reminded me so much of one of those really bad Harlequins (you know the ones I'm talking about) that I turned back to the front to check the publication date. I thought I had gotten a hold of a 1980's reprint or something.
Let me be more specific.

Charity Starr is supposed to be a brilliant Chemist/Astrophysicist, and yet she says and does the dumbest things throughout the whole book. For example: allowing her sleazy boss and dishonest co-worker access to her top secret, "dangerous if it gets in the wrong hands" project; constantly trying to escape protection even though she knows she is the target of a kidnapping plot, etc., etc. During a fire in her lab I quote Charity on page 178: "Irrationally she thought, Hawk's honey will melt if we don't get out of here." I couldn't believe it. Once when Charity got mad at Hawk, she actually kicked him in the shin. Wow!

Just two more things that bothered me about this book (among many) and I will stop. Charity used her ESP to find a dead body, and she was so upset that it turned her on and she had to have immediate sex with Hawk. Hawk insists that Charity take one of his professional bodyguards with her, who then walks right into a trap and lets the kidnappers take her away. I could go on and on, but you should get the idea. This book is going right into the discard pile; and, again, I wish someone had told me.

Summary: Fabulous book!
Review: Tears of the Hawk sets a new standard for paranormal suspense. I was completely drawn into the story of Hawk and Charity. For the few short hours in which I read the book -- didn't put it down once--I truly believed in the world created by Ms. Clark. It takes a very talented author to draw a reader in that way. Be assured, Ms. Clark is a talented author of the highest order.
