Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Powerful and provocative
Review: A Serpent at Her Breast is one of the most powerful novels to capture the political complexities of Balinese history. Rife with description and twists of plot, the story brings the reader into a provocative love triangle that is unerringly human and erotic.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the greatest political romances I've ever read
Review: Unravels a tale of romance and intrigue in Indonesia. Wilhem, the 50 year old hero of the novel, is a Dutch engineer and artist fascinated with Balinese culture and falls in love with and eventually marries the 20 year old Suva, a Balinese maiden. A third Javanese character, Nitar, is a fiery Communist revolutionary who becomes enamored with Suva as well and forms a third part of the love triangle that is the centerpiece of the novel with unusual action
