Rating: Summary: I'm Talkin' 'Bout a Strong Black Writer! Review: OK everyone, listen up..."Preconcieved Notions" is a book that any woman and even a few men can identify with. This book is not only about romance (don't get me wrong, there's lots in store), however, it deals with some tough issues that often get overlooked in the Black community such as sexual abuse, obsession for material things, Black women relying on men for financial needs and the importance of not neglecting our family and fellow sisters. This book is easy for anyone to read, yet at the same time, it is far from just a "shallow read". Ms. Williams has a way of grasping so many issues and surrounding them by and enjoyable and electrifying storyline that it is almost unbelievable. So let's see...whom would I recommend this book to? I'd recommend it to the young girls who are starting college; the women that are dealing with a haunting past of an abusive father (or male family member); women who don't understand their mothers; women who enjoy reading about a real "strong Black man"; women who are educated and women who are not afraid to be real women in times of good and in hard, trying times. Take the time to read and truly understand the scenarios in "Preconcieved Notions", this novel is truly worth every second.
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ. Review: Preconceived Notions was an excellent love story. Even after reading for the second time in two years, it was more intriguing and irresistible then the first time I read it (and each time I finished reading it in three days). The content of Preconceived Notion and the masterful use of words was such that it draws the reader into the pages. This story touches on many important issues, but the one that stands out is LOVE. The love portrayed in this story is so holistic and unconditional: love in friendship(Caprice and Imagany), love in companship and relationships(Imagany and Elliot), love in families (as depicted in Zabree and Imagany's relationship). Robyn Williams captured in Elliot's character virtually everything I feel a real, strong Black man should be. Her depiction of his dedication, sensitivity, unconditional love and his very content was reassuring. It takes the idea or concept of a Stong Black Man and personifies it a character, a man, that every woman hopes to find. The reader experiences the sensuality in this book with ever word. There was never a dull moment in the pages of this book. Each page delivers a twist that pulls the reader deeper into the story: child abuse, domestic violence, drugs, success. This is a definite must read.
