Rating: Summary: Compared to Erle Stanley Gardner! Review: "Filled with the Erle Stanley Gardner style deception that I so enjoy Shadows in the Mist is a 'keep you turning the page' read. The bewilderment felt by Suzanna is something the reader can feel. Desperation, confusion and light romance fill the pages of this lively tale. McMahon's talent is evident as you are caught up in this suspense filled thriller. Highly recommended." Rating: Summary: Wonderful read! Review: "I thoroughly enjoyed reading Shadows in the Mist. It was a well-crafted book with excellent characterization." Quoted from Anna Jacobs, author of Our Lizzie, Jessie, Like No Other, Lancashire Lass, the Gibson family saga and many more
Rating: Summary: A romantic suspense novel rich in atmosphere Review: I don't know about comparing SHADOWS IN THE MIST to "Jane Austin," as reviewer baset calls her. I would suggest a comparison with Victoria Holt is more apt. SHADOWS IN THE MIST is a taut, suspenseful story, with shivery paranormal and gothic overtones, comparing favorably to the best of Holt. The reader is pulled into the compelling story from the first sentence, and McMahon doesn't let up on the tension until the final word. I loved it!
Rating: Summary: Just buy it! It is really good. Review: I loved the books of Mary Stewart, especially The Moonspinners, Airs above the grounds etc. But now I have found an author with the same style (although more modern ofcourse). I started reading and could not stop! From the first chapter I was hooked. Suzanna goes home after her father has been found in his pool - drowned. He has left a will stipulating Suzanna marry his adopted son Grant, who leads the family company. Suzanna suspects her father has been murdered, and when strange things start to happen she does not know who she can trust. It is a marvellous story with gothic elements. Reads fast. Wow, really loved it. I will certainly buy her next book.
Rating: Summary: A gorgeous read from cover to cover Review: I started reading about Suzanna Dirkston's return home following her father's death and was immediately hooked. Shadows in the Mist is one of those rare books that once you start reading it keeps calling you back. I love when I become infatuated with a book and can't leave it alone. Now I'm sorry I finished because I had to leave a new friend behind. Maureen has a wonderful writing style. It's flawless and leaves you breathless. I highly recommend this romantic thriller.
Rating: Summary: Like it if you will Review: If you like your heros with a cigarette in one hand and a whiskey in the other, then this book is for you. I thought it was tedious and at least a decade out of date--maybe two decades--or more.
Rating: Summary: One of my all-time favorites Review: Maureen McMahon is such an incredibly talented writer that I read "Shadows in the Mist" twice. The first time, I had to finish it as quickly as possible to find out what happened next. The suspense is carried by three elements: a superbly paced mystery, carefully placed gothic elements and the sizzling chemistry between Suzanna Dirkston and the man she has to marry in order to save the family fortune. Suzanna is a wonderful heroine with a perfectly balanced set of strengths and weaknesses. All characters are vivid and many-facetted, right down to Kong, the resolute cat.Once I had recovered from the breathtaking showdown, I started reading all over again to relish Maureen McMahons wonderful style. I usually skip descriptive passages in most of the books I read, but not this time! "Shadows in the Mist" had me spellbound on every page.
