Summary: Compellingly Real North Carolina Historic Novel
Review: Between the Rivers follows 20 years of the life of Maggie Lorena Corbinn, starting in 1905 when she leaves Onslow County North Carolina to go to college in Raleigh. She is high-strung and self-absorbed, and doesn't always make the best choices. Yet the story is quite captivating. I really enjoyed the author's historical research which brought early 20th century North Carolina to life for me. One of the male love interests seems straight out of the Romance Genre with his demanding ways and her weak-kneed infatuation for him, but the rest of the characters were more three-dimensional.

Ms. Booth states that many of the events portrayed in the novel are true with names changed and facts rearranged, and begs local readers not to take offense. This adds a sense of mystery which may intrigue local readers. I feel this book will be a good read to anyone from coastal Carolina who wants insight into local life a century ago. Although my grandparents aren't from North Carolina, I enjoyed reading this historic novel of romance and coming-of-age. It took me back to a much simpler time and made it compellingly real.

Summary: Wow! Where is the sequel?
Review: Carolyn Booth is the kind of writer who actually transports you to where her story takes place! Not only do you believe that you are actually in rural North Carolina, you can almost smell Aunt Mag's cooking! The characters are not super-human but humans, who make good and bad decisions, suffer the consequences and live for another day! Maggie's heartache and triumphs became mine! My only disappointment is that she ended the book with somewhat of a cliffhanger. What happens to Maggie next? I am impatiently waiting for a sequel!

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I hated to see this book end. Maggie's life was so real to me. She could be a woman of any era facing the same personal trials we all face. I found the details about rural North Carolina, Raleigh and what is now Meredith College made this a compelling page-turner. I loved it!

Summary: I loved it!
Review: I may have missed the boat on this one but I have a problem getting into Maggie's true personality... Wash was such a charming fellow, yet she gave her heart and soul totally to Reece who everyone said was a scoundrel from start to finish...I don't think Maggie was true to herself whatsoever. She adored her third child yet I think she ignored her first two. Poor Tate. How could he have put up[ with all her ongoing trash?? I guess she was really mentally ill from the get go. AS a Tar Heel, born and bred, I loved the North Carolina scenes but let there not be a sequel of Maggie. I just do not care whether she came back or not.

Review: The story of Maggie Lorena will keep the reader spellbound throughout the entire book. This is Carolyn Booth's first novel and I look forward to more of her novels. ...
