Summary: Prince Rupert-romance with a real historical character
Review: The meaning of Cavalier was coined by this romantic historical person. Prince Rupert, handsome nephew to the tragic King Charles I, was only a young man when he was given the appointment of general of the horse.
England, torn apart by a Civil war. Families, sharply divided. Should they follow their King? or the stern Oliver Cromwell?
Venetia Denby had no anxiety about her choice. Her family were royalists, her brothers off to fight under the Prince's banner.
Venetia, harboring in her romantic head the vision of this arrogant, and royal prince, would fight by his side if she could.
Instead, she becomes his lover.
So well written, this story blends historical accuracy with romance.
The political turncoats and misunderstandings, will make you want to gnash your teeth and weep for a time and place long past but still with the results resounding even into this century.
The cast of characters, even the minor ones, have depth.
A good weeper!
