Summary: Holding On
Review: For me, Still Waters Run Deep was a much-anticipated sequel to Rivers of the Soul and I was not disappointed. While reading this novel, I was often reminded of and hummed that oldie tune of the same title.

In Rivers of the Soul, Toni and Jerome reintroduced themselves to each other with the excitement and freshness of new lovers. Still Waters Run Deep picks up where Rivers of the Soul left off, with Toni and Jerome taking their relationship public and going through the trials and tribulations of meshing careers, finances and blending families. After finding each other, knowing that they are each other's soul mate, will they be able to navigate the obstacles placed before them?

Still Waters Run Deep goes several steps further by examining Toni and Jerome's responses to their responsibilities; their ability to handle crisis; their speculations of the uncertainty of their relationship and revealing some truths that neither knew about the other.

Leslie Esdaile's characters are feisty and strong willed; the situations are descriptive, vivid and realistic. This sequel, while long on pages, is quick and thought-provoking. What I took from this novel is to dream, instill your faith in that dream and never let go. .....Reviewed by Dawn R. Reeves, APOOO BookClub.

Summary: Love is better the second time around
Review: How would you handle a second chance to undo 20 years of 'what ifs', and find the happiness that has always eluded you? In Leslie Esdaile's Still Waters Run Deep, Jerome and Antoinette are given a chance to do just that.

This sequel to Rivers of the Soul delves into the very fiber of marriage and family. It shares a very real, very touching look at responsibilities and missed opportunities. It sends the message that it takes courage to count your losses and take your life to another level. This story carries the full embodiment of letting go and letting a higher power direct your life.

Jerome realizes for this woman to have seen him in all of his youthful glory, and also in all his mature confusion, and to still look at him with admiration and desire; That she is indeed the other half of his wholeness, that she has become the still waters that run so deep within him, that she has called him from his own depths. Antoinette, is finally able to share childhood events which shaped her life and forced her to react/behave in a manner that had imprisonsed her with fear.

The lives of three other couples are also intertwined, so the decisions by Toni and Jerome greatly affect the outcome of each of the marriages. As the story unravels, you begin to see the humanness of each couple and the fears of the individuals who make up the couples. This book covers many high profile issues; divorce, spousal abuse, infidelity and parenting. It urges the reader to love yourself enough to reach beyond what's expected and with courage grasp that second opportunity.

Ms. Esdaile has written a sequel that explores and expands what living your dreams is all about. The one message I bring from this book is to never give up, don't ever give up your dreams. Please take the opportunity to read this wonderful story. -- Reviewed by aNN Brown

Summary: The Ebb and Flow of Life and Love
Review: I read Rivers of My Soul and loved it and couldn't wait to read this sequel. I was not disappointed. I absolutely love Leslie Esdaile's style of writing. It is so down to earth. Through her writing, you could feel, relate and understand what the characters were going through. You could feel Toni's grief on learning that a loved one would be leaving her soon, but at the same time, you almost felt your own stomach cramping as she fought to keep the tears from her voice so as not to alarm her beloved Aunt Pearline. You felt her fear as she realized that her life was not as it should be. You could relate as she finally snapped out of it and remembered her power and started concentrating on what she COULD do instead of what she couldn't. You nodded your head and understood her ferocity as a mother lion protecting her cubs. And you really understood how she felt to be all things to everyone, but at night, she was still a sensuous, giving, taking, needing, loving, sexual woman who could give as well as take and you sighed when she and Jerome took it to another level. Yeah. If you have ever been a woman in love, I mean REALLY in love with that one person who should have been the one by your side, no matter what, you could relate.

Summary: A Realistic Romance Novel
Review: Quite simply this book is a beautiful tale about love lost and found again. After a 20-year pause, Antoinette and Jerome have found each other again. This time, nothing shall separate them. Still Waters Run Deep is a story full of passion- sweet, mature, rewarding and profound. The rejuvenation between two kindred souls makes this novel a must read, a definite addition to any well rounded book collection.

Antoinette is a savvy businesswoman- Jerome is blue collar. The two met in high school and family influence being what it is, separation soon followed. Antoinette went to college and Jerome went to the service. Two lives separated, but hearts still together. Hurt soon followed, of course. Two lives separated and hearts divided as well. Both Toni and Jay (pet names for each other) married other people and had families. Separated lives, divided hearts and other spirits to intertwine. But through it all, that which is lost shall be found again.

A major facet of Still Waters Run Deep is the theme of family tradition, the passing on of a rich heritage and the assurance that the past is never forgotten; only enhanced. As such Toni has been passed on the family torch of preparing the Easter feast and becoming the caretaker of her family. She is preparing to take over as the head of a sisterhood who speak in a mystical female language. Toni is preparing herself for the role of queen bee to her family. She embraces the task of providing a place emotionally for the sustenance and support of every member. A formidable undertaking but as the eldest, those before her have groomed her for this position. Jay loves her all the more for strength and ability. He notices how she can behave as a mother bear fiercely protecting her own, a loving vixen, attentive to his needs and the love that lay dormant for 20 years sparks to life. What more could any two people want and need.

If ever a book, I wanted to find myself in were written, I would have to say that Still Waters Run Deep would be the one. The simplistic beauty of love, the intrinsic complexity of family dynamics, the strength to meld the two together seamlessly make this novel fascinating to read and memorable.

Summary: Turbulant waves, Hurricane winds....
Review: This is a good sequel to Rivers of the Soul. Antoinette and Jerome have the weights of too many on their shoulders. After 20 years of being apart and married to others, they have discovered that the love they have is deep rooted to sustain the responsibilities that they have. Combined they have children and ex's to deal with, along with a host of friends and family members that have major issues. As they struggle with employment, they are struck hard with death approaching some very close family and friends. They realize their love is strong and that they have major responsibillities and they are not love struck teenagers. They also realize that mistakes that they made in the past, have to be rectified. Everyone learns what needs to be done, after a tragedy strikes. You have a little bit of everything in this story and the supporting characters are excellent. You laugh, and you Cry, I wanted to whoop up on Jerome's wife. Excellent Job! Easy read.
