Rating: Summary: The First and Best V.C. Andrews Review: This was such a beautiful story about seven-year-old Audrina Adare. She believes that her whole purpose in life is to live up to the standards her dead sister (also Audrina) set. She has what her father refers to as a swiss cheese memory, for her recollection of the past is limited to what others tell her. It has a great twist at the end, that only serves to show what people will do in the name of love, though some may consider it so extreme that they just can't suspend their disbelief. VC Andrews was a gifted writer whose name is being exploited. All the books that she has written have been haunting tales that really touch the reader, yet they are also filled with quirky and flawed characters, as well as unexpected humor. For example, I found the whole concept of the Tuesday Teatimes, where Audrina's mother and aunt would have tea with dead Aunt Mercy-Marie, and argue with her portrait, to be very amusing. Then there is Audrina's father, Damian, who turned out to be totally different than I expected. I'll tell you this, MSA is pretty much the only V.C.A. book that doesn't contain incest. The best part of this book though is the twist at the end. It was an interesting study of how far parents will go to do what they think is "best" for their children. And if anything proves the quote "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions", it's this book. No, I'm sorry. That would be the purpose of the Dollanganger series.
