Rating: Summary: My first book of Miller's . . . Review: I came across her book in a hunt in an old used books store and decided to buy it and give this seasoned writer a try. I was no dissappointed but it was not an extravagantly good book like so many I have read.
I enjoyed the characters and their unique portrayal through the writer's talents. I think anyone who read Miller may like this one but for me this was simply a good book and sadly I may not remember the characters as I do so many others.
The story is during the treacheous time when Napoleon escapes Elba and tempts to reign again, overthrowing powers in France. Young Madelaine is taken from the only care of her home after the death of her grandfather to meet the father in England her mother left behind. Her escort is a man who tempts her heart and piques in her desires she never knew could be.
But little does she know the man she finds herself falling for is holding her at arms length and she'd go to any length herself to have him. But upon her return to England - a land that is no home to her at all - to the father she barely remembers, she finds ulterior motives for her being brought home and finds that she is meant for another.
A solid 4 stars for good writing, pacing and character development. Lack of a star for there missing a certain "umpf!"
