Summary: Once Wicked
Review: Amelia Benedict is suffering from ennui. The only real pleasure she has is to spend time with the orphans at Holcomb House. On the way home from the orphanage, her coach is stopped, and the highwayman steals her precious ring, but what disturbs her most is her reaction to his kiss. Dylan Marlow has come up with a daring way to restore his lost fortune. He has turned to highway robbery. The disinherited youth graces the ton with his presence, searching for a wealthy heiress to wed while robbing some of the wealthy lords and ladies. He finds his heart engaged when he encounters Amelia among the garden parties. But Amelia's thoughts are on the highwayman who robs her for a second time. How can Dylan compete with himself and gain the woman he loves? If you are into aristocratic Highwaymen, Once Wicked is for you. The premise is hackneyed, and the characters not endearing.

Summary: Delightfully wicked romance
Review: In 1812 England, Miss Amelia Benedict feels she is wealthy enough to live life without the burden of a husband. That changes when a highwayman steals her beloved ring and departs with a kiss that shakes the very core of Amelia's being. Passion has exploded inside the formerly aloof Amelia.

Dylan Marlow swears he will restore his family fortune. To accomplish this Herculean feat, he robs from the rich as a highwayman. He also plans to marry someone wealthy. Dylan has selected Amelia whose shared kiss shook his bones. However, he quickly learns that Amelia loves his alterego. Still, the scoundrel vows to win his beloved's heart without donning a mask.

ONCE WICKED is a humorous, entertaining Regency romance that will please sub-genre fans or anyone who enjoys their novels having a comical twist to the plot. The story line is fast-paced, filled with action, and an intriguing triangle. Sherri Browning provides readers with a wonderfully jocular historical romance.

Summary: Another great new regency historical from Sherri Browning...
Review: Once Wicked by Sherri Browning Review by Barb Deane, Barb's All Romance Book Store

Sherri Browning's second historical romance from Dell is a July release entitled Once Wicked. Like The Scoundrel's Vow, Sherri's first book, Once Wicked is a delightful regency-era historical. You may order Once Wicked by clicking on the cover above. Here's our review:

Amelia Benedict is a wealthy young woman with a loving heart. She gives her time and money to help her uncle and the orphans he takes care of, partly because she herself was orphaned. She has endured censure by the ton due to her philanthropic endeavors, including being barred from Almack's. But now that she's decided she wants to get married and have a family, she's begun attending many social events while making up her mind on the man she will fall in love with. On the way home one night, she is held up by a highwayman.

Dylan Marlow is an impoverished pseudo-gentleman. The only nephew of an Earl, he was nonetheless disinherited due to a childish prank that got him expelled from Oxford. When his father died and left Dylan a shipyard, he also left Dylan a load of debt. Once the debts had been paid off, the only ship he still owned was in dry dock, awaiting repairs. Dylan was faced with the challenge of finding a way to pay for the necessary repairs so that he could get his shipping business on its feet again and start earning money again.

Enter the highwayman - Dylan's clever idea for making money. Unfortunately, the first coach he stops is Amelia's and he gets more than he bargained for - he finds an intriguing woman that he can't get off his mind. Dylan decides to pursue Amelia as an Earl's nephew because she is so wealthy and would suit his purpose wonderfully. Instead, he falls in love with her. However, since Amelia is attracted to the highway and annoyed by Dylan, it presents a bit of a problem for him to win her over.

The chemistry between these characters is delightful, as is the humor of the Dylan vs. Amelia sparring. The dark intrigue of a mysterious highwayman adds to the sexual tension. Sherri has shown herself to be not a one-hit wonder, but a promising new author with serious talent. Don't miss this one!

Summary: Awful
Review: Sherri Browning does it again! Highwayman Dylan Marlow is the most exciting hero I've read in Regency romance since Scarbrorough Weston captured my heart last year in Browning's debut novel THE SCOUNDREL'S VOW. A fast-paced plot, masterfully drawn characters and Browning's trademark dialogue make ONCE WICKED an equally absorbing read. I can't decide which book I loved best. Read them both! Browning is an author to watch. I can't wait for her next release.

Summary: Enjoyable, Relaxing Read
Review: Sherri Browning's second historical is as witty, sharp, and sexy as her debut novel, The Scoundrel's Vow. Once Wicked is a regency romp filled with warmth, humor, sparkling dialog and lively characterizations. History buffs will enjoy the inclusion of Caroline Lamb and Lady Melbourne among the cast of characters. A fun read.

Summary: Wickedly sensual
Review: This is the first book I have read by Sherri Browning. What a fun time I had reading this book. The tall dark and mysterious highwayman robs Amelia Benedict and she robs his heart... Dylan Marlow was disinherited by his rich uncle and left to a life of poverity. Thankfully it really doesn't come to that. He decides he will be sort of a robin hood rob from the rich to take for himself. His first victim in none other than Amelia...Now he wants to steal her heart. Find out what he does.....

Summary: A Reader's Opinion
Review: This reader is in the mood to quibble with one "professional" reviewer. Ms. Browning has crafted a classic highwayman plot but with a unique twist, tumbling both her hero and heroine into a series of events that quickly escalate out of their control. The characters, both primary and secondary, two footed and four, are drawn with care and with an eye to uniqueness. Ms. Browning knows humans are full of quirks and unusual characteristics, and she uses this knowlege to create characters so real I'd like to see them have the chance to live in my imagination again, perhaps someday in their own stories.

Dylan Marlow is a man who once strolled among the rich but left them after an unfortunate incident. Now left with little more than an abysmal shipping business, he makes the fateful decision to use those he now abhors to his advantage -- he will become a highwayman and steal from the rich to finance his rebuilding efforts. But though his first attempt ends succesfully, it also ends unexpectedly, when a stolen kiss kindles something deep and surely dangerous within the bad boy Marlow.

The recipient of that stolen kiss is Amelia, a well-to-do but certainly not typical young woman. I liked Amelia. Her sense of humor, her very human allergies, and her willingness to take chances for love made her a heroine worth remembering. Ms. Browning's presentation of Amelia's reactions to that first scandalizing kiss into a woman falling in love with her unknown thief rang true. Add a boorish suitor with devious plans of his own, a knowing maid, and an endearing child to the mix and you'll find yourself entertained as a reader hopes to be entertained everytime he or she picks up a new book.

Ms. Browning's second book has shown her growing maturity as a writer. She has taken us firmly in hand and given us a brief glimpse into the past and done so with a delightful, fun and exciting story. It will be exciting to see Ms. Browning's next effort. I for one look forward to it eagerly.
