Summary: This one rocks
Review: As a mother of two this one really rang a bell with me. I loved the heroine, Anna's attitude to kids, especially the bit where she comments that she and her mate Brenda were the only two women she knew who were much less excited by their babies first words and steps than by getting a terrific set of highlights.

This one pulls off a double header: it is unbelievably funny while at the same time really grabbing your emotions and making you root for Anna. Her hypochondriac husband is hilarious too.

This book is so, so, so funny. I don't understand why this writer isn't more famous. I am now off to devour the rest of her books.

Summary: This Awful Piece Gices Women a Bad Name
Review: I liked this one so much more than Margolis' "Spin Cycle". I thought it was funny (Dan's hypochondria had me laughing outloud) and Anna's search for some physical fun and attention was great and kept me wanting more! I thought the ending was a bit lame, and I didn't understand the whole thing with Anna's mother - seemed like a unless ancillary character. This isn't as good as Briget Jones' Diary, but it's right up there. Now on to "Apocalipstick"!

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I loved Spin Cycle by Sue Margolis so I went out and got Neurotica right away. I could not have been more disappointed by this book. I thought it was totally tasteless, crass and unrealistic to name a few things. I usually really like these types of books (British Humor), but this one was truly awful. It was like I was reading a book by a totally different author than Spin Cycle, I couldn't believe it. I'd advise anyone to steer clear of this one, but that's just my taste.

Summary: After reading her other two books....
Review: I wasn't that impressed with Margolis's first novel.

I had attempted to read "Neurotica" about 5 times before finally sitting down and starting over again. Dan is a hypochondriac (who diagnosis himself in very unusual, hilarious ways) and it's driving his wife, Anna crazy.

This book will share Dan's quest to find out the root of his sickness, Anna's adulterous relationship(s) and the adventures that Anna's mother has to deal with from a stalker.

Neurotica has some very funny moments which include Anna trying to color her gray pubic hairs with "Bush Magic" before her first extra marital affair and Dan taking a poop in a pickle jar to take to a Gastro doctor.

Unfortunately, I didn't start becoming involved with the characters until halfway through the book but I am glad that I followed through until the end.

Margols has come a LONG way with her two latest books, Spin Cycle and Apocolipstic which are two of my fav's!

Summary: Hilariously Funny
Review: Neurotica is a hilariously funny novel about tabloid journalist Anna Shapiro who is assigned to write an article about female adultery. This seems like the perfect assignment for Anna who decides to do a little hands on research after years of having her husband Dan, who is a hypochondriac, refusing to have sex with her for fear that he may have a heart attack. Anna's exploits are so funny that they will have you laughing out loud but even funnier is Dan's fear of...well everything from testicular cancer to spontaneous human combustion. These two paired with Anna's mother who is being stalked by a fellow obsessive compulsive group member and Anna's best friend Brenda who is by Anna's side through it all while getting into a little trouble of her own makes for a very amusing read.

I haven't read a whole lot of British humor but after reading Neurotica I will definitely be reading much, much more. If you want an easy and entertaining read this is the book for you! 4 Stars!

Summary: The Brits sure know their shag!
Review: Normally, I wouldn't enjoy this kind of book ~~ but I must've been in the mood for a good laugh. This is one hilarious book ~~ one that you shouldn't skim over the parts because you'll miss out on the images Sue was creating with her words. I learned that the hard way ~~ I am a speed reader and would skim over parts of the book till I realize just what she had said! Then I'd read it again ~~ and laugh hysterically after reading it!!

Anna is a married woman married to a hyprochondriac who hasn't had sex in several years. Dan is her husband ~~ he is just as funny as Anna ~~ though he can be real annoying. Then there's Anna's mom who was being stalked by an older man (now some of the headlines Anna and her friend came up with are just downright hilarious!) and there's Brenda, Anna's best friend. They will take you on an adventure through adultery and sex ~~ that while you may disapprove of ~~ but it rocks with laughter!!

If you're blue or down, then I recommend this book for laughs. In the meantime, I'm blue because her next book won't be available in the states till fall. I don't know if I can wait that long as her first book is hysterical. For someone who has always thought the Brits were serious and gloomy, this author has proven me wrong!

Enjoy this book ~~ in the humor it was meant to be ~~ and you'll never forget Anna's adventures.

Summary: Sadly believable, hilariously entertaining
Review: One of the few books I've read that accurately shows how the shoe is often on the other foot -- the woman wants great sex and the man is indifferent. So she seeks it elsewhere. More acceptable for men, not so for women. In this book, an English journalist decides to take a personal view of her tabloid assignment to find three women who followed an author's insights that women can have affairs without emotions becoming involved just as easily as men. On top of that, the descriptions of her husband and his hypochondria is very well presented. The journalists first adulterated encounter is passion-filled and just hilarious at the end. She handles a BIG problem like a pro. I liked the slightly unbelievable ending. The name of the book is simply awesome, as is the cover. "Neurotica," combining the woman's "eurotic" adventures and her husband's "neurotic" tendencies. The cover with the bare legs up in the air suggesting sex and the stethoscope on the legs almost suggesting a speculum but actually symbolizing the husband's own stethoscope and other medical supplies. A compulsive mother thrown in for good measure just puts the cherry on the prize! This is a great read and is one of the first British humor books I've read, so I enjoyed the language and difference in writing style. Just super!

Summary: Funnny, but very thin, and ultimately stupid
Review: This book was truly one of the funniest I'd read in a long while. The sex scenes were a little graphic, but not in a distasteful way.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Slightly Erotica..........
Review: well, it took me so long to get into this book that i had to start it over a few times to remind me what it was that i read. i finally sat down to finish it, but it seemed to drag for me. the characters seemed weird and superficial.

i found anna's infidelities quite disturbing. it was very upsetting, since dan was trying desperately to deal with his own neuroses and idiosyncrasies to make the marriage work.

i was, however, happy with the ending and the television show anna ended up on. there were a few cute one liners which made me smile.

as far as anna's mother, it just didn't work for me. i found her character to be boring and contrite.

all-in-all, this was a pretty blah book and i am glad that it is over.
