Rating: Summary: The Dish Review: A must read . . . Stamford resident and author L.C. Martin has penned a new novel, "Caught in the Rain." The novel, filled with romance, intrigue, politics and danger, takes place in Huntington Beach, aka Surf City, Calif. The author, a lover of the islands, who wrote her first novel, "Destiny," in 2000, is busy with her third novel, "Emerald Harbor," which takes place in the Virgin Islands.
Rating: Summary: A particularly thoughtful and deftly written novel Review: Caught In The Rain by L.C. Martin is a grippingly told story of abuse, love, loss, and hard choices. Jessica Thomas is a woman who flees the horror of her home, takes up the lifestyle of an L.A. escort, and learns how to make the best of her business; meanwhile, her childhood friend Joe embarks on a political career. When they meet again, emotions fly at cross purposes, yet love between any two people has but a slim chance of survival amid deeply buried secrets. Caught In The Rain is recommended as a particularly thoughtful and deftly written novel showcasing the strengths and foibles of human nature.
Rating: Summary: Caught In The Rain Review: I entered a contest to win this book, but bought it anyway because of the reviews it's received. The setting described Surf City to a t & I enjoyed the L.A. scenes as well. The story was very exciting and I loved the main characters. The romance between Jessica and Joe sizzled and I hope there's a sequel coming soon.
Rating: Summary: Dramatic, compelling suspense Review: Joe Patterson and Jessica Thomas were best friends. A bad home situation caused by a drunk mother and a leering stepfather forced Jessica to move to Los Angeles at seventeen. Jessica gets a job at Matte restaurant where she meets Martina Medina who offers her a job as an escort. She gracefully declines. When her mother needs a liver transplant, Jessica accepts Martina's offer. Joe marries Maxie Holstead who provides the impetus for him to enter the political world. As Joe rises, Jessica avoids him because she does not want her background to hurt his chances at becoming a future senator. When a client of hers, Brian Foster, becomes abusive, demanding, and dangerous, Jessica turns to her champion Joe for protection though she knows she can never have the man she loves. Fans of contemporary relationship and dramatic suspense tales will relish Caught in the Rain. The story line enables the audience to see deeply into the prime character Jessica and understand what makes her choose the path she selects. Though the key support players (his wife and her "boyfriend") are too nastily caricaturist, readers will take pleasure from this strong character study that displays the talent of L.C. Rating: Summary: Compelling and suspenseful read! Review: L.C. Martin was kind enough to send me a free copy of her book. I admit that I placed it somewhere in the heap of unread books in my study and forgot all about it. I stumbled upon it a few days ago and decided to give it a whirl. I'm so glad I did! Caught in the Rain is a compelling, suspenseful book about a woman's quest to rebuild her life and the obstacles she faces down the road to self-discovery. Jessica Thomas has had enough of her abusive home, so she moves to L.A. and becomes an escort. However, her past isn't easy to leave behind, especially when she is reacquainted with her best friend Joe. A romantic relationship ensues, but Jessica isn't capable of escaping her new lifestyle. Joe has embarked on a job in politics and decides that Maxie, a former high school crush, is a safer bet for his career. But will Joe get over Jessica? And will they conquer all of the events that transpire? There are some interesting twists throughout the novel. Caught in the Rain is a reading investment. The story development is precise and the characterization is excellent. I regret having taken this long to give this novel a whirl. I shall pass it along to friends and give it the word of mouth it deserves.
Rating: Summary: Fiction which reads as though it's real Review: L.C. Martin writes the kind of stuff I like to read. It's fast paced. What's even more exciting is while I know it's fiction, it seems so real. It's like reading a newspaper item and then letting your own imagination wander behind the scenes for the story you think might really be happening to the characters there. The grace of Martin's writing though is her imagination is so much better than mine. Her plot twists always surprised me and delighted me. Another plus, so tough for so many authors, is the fact that her characters always rang true -- both male and female. It won't be long before L.C. Martin is a household name.
Rating: Summary: Compelling and intriguing Review: L.C. Martin's tale of a young girl's struggle to find happiness kept me turning the pages all night. Her characters are heart-warming and their experiences gripping. She makes the reader care about them and with each turn of the page, has you hoping that things will be okay. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, supense and real life issues.
Rating: Summary: Reviewers choice Review: This is a well written story about a young woman's struggle to surmount the problems of her life and to come to terms with its consequences. The pace is swift. The characters are developed in depth with their strengths and weaknesses. The bond between Jessica and Joe is heartwarming. This is a quick and enjoyable read.
