Summary: Loved It!
Review: I had Wishing on a Star in a box of books for 2 years. After reading Fantasy and Follow Your Heart, I decided to read Wishing on a Star. I did this because I truly enjoyed Fantasy and Follow Your Heart. After reading Wishing on a Star I realized why it had been in a box for two years. I must say this book was a disappointment. More time was spent on Shay and Ric's relationship than on Shay and Wood's (I would say 80% of it was spent on Shay and Ric's relationship). I can only speak for myself, but when I read a romance novel, I like reading about the two people who are going to end up together.

This story also disappointed me in the fact that it was unrealistic. Lets get real, how many men (especially African American) men would pine over a woman who is having sexual relations with another man? Woman can handle a man being with another woman better than a woman being with another man (in my own opinion). The thought of someone like Wood behaving like a whupped bafoon was too much for me stomach. Next, Shay's character was a disgrace (and pitiful). This character was written (in my opinion again) to be a disgrace to women. The fact that she had strong positive feelings for Wood (and had known him longer), and was working on a relationship with him, yet she jumps in the sack on the first date with some rock star, who has a reputation of being overly sexually active, made Shay look like a dawg. To make matters worse, she doesn't tell Wood, then she gets an attitude with him when he catches her kissing Ric on the night they were to become sexually active. Next, Shay's character thinks back on she and Ric's first night of having sex, and how she stopped him when he didn't have any condoms. However nothing was mentioned about him having gone to the drug store to get some, but we do know they had sex. Did She and Ric have unprotected sex...in 1997? One word...AIDS! Lastly, I don't want to spoil too much of the plot for those who have not read this book, but Shay's final transition from Ric to Wood, and what transpired in 24 hours, lets get real.

This book was an easy read, and it flowed smoothly, but the plot and the weak characters made me want to toss the book into the garbage.

Don't let this scare anyone, Ms. Manees' last two books were delightful (in my opinion), and I will continue to read her books. However, I cannot in good conscience reccommend Wishing on a Star to anyone. Sorry.

Summary: A tangled web to the fullest!
Review: I have read all of Raynetta Manees' books, and I have to say that this is one of her best. I finished this book in 5 hours. I have to say that I was not dissappointed in the least. Eventhough at times I felt like giving Shay a good shake for putting up with Ric's bs. Raynetta keep up the good work. I can't wait to read her latest novel.

Summary: Surprising!!!
Review: Shay and Wood, in the beginning it was a relationship blooming and nicely developing. Shay and Ric what a love battlefield. I enjoyed this book of fiction as it is. Some people really do fall for the drama that a mate will dish to them.

Shay, Wood and Ric were all in the same boat confused, they had issues. I must say this book was very entertaining it had it's flaws, but sometime what we think is love isn't and sometime we settle for less and do what we have to do. Shay was living through her romance writing and got stuck in the middle of it with Ric. Shay didn't know reality was until it hit her square in the face. Ric, on the other hand was doing what he knew was best for him. Woody, what can I say about him, just that I liked him. I didn't truly agree with his actions, however, he got what he wanted. It's always a great day to wake up and see reality for what it is for.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: This book is really special. It was much more true to life than most romanance novels. The characters were all endearing, even the ones who were wrong-headed, because you couldn't help but empatize with them, as another reviewer has noted. I love Manees' work, and cant wait for the next one!
