Summary: Hated it...
Review: I choose books to read based on two factors: either I like the author and enjoyed his/her previous books, or the storyline looks promising. I've never read a Joan Wolf novel, and I don't think I will after this. I expect a romance to carry me away to another world - a world full of passion, seduction, maybe even a little intrigue. This book fails on all accounts. The passion is promising in the beginning, but completely fades out about half way through the book. There was absolutely no seductive scenes, I could not even tell if they had done anything intimate. And finally the villians were so weak that they weren't even an impact in the storyline. I rarely put a book away without finishing it - but I was sorely tempted to do so with this book. I was deeply disappointed and recommend that you look elsewhere if you want a truly romantic escape. -TEP

Summary: Terribly, Terribly disappointed
Review: I have been a fan of Joan Wolf's regencies for many years. I spend hours in book stores looking for her old ones (The Rebellious Ward, A London Season, His Lordship's Mistress, etc.) and have found most of them. When she started her regencies again with "The Deception", I was thrilled and wait with baited breath for each new one.

Someday Soon is just not in the same class, however, as "The Guardian", "The Arrangement", "Golden Girl", "The Gamble", "The Pretenders". I agree ... that the character development of the hero and heroine is shallow. The development of their relationship was even worse. It was hard for me to care about either one of them, or to believe that they cared about each other.

I'm not sure why she abandoned the first person narrative convention that she used in the other books in this series, but it did not help the character or plot development at all.

Also, what does this title have to do with the story?

Summary: Deja Vu, All Over Again
Review: I just finished reading SOMEDAY SOON and ...I just finished reading SOMEDAY SOON and... is there an echo in here? Reading Ms. Wolf's latest is like reading two or three of her earlier books. This isn't a new book - it's a patchwork quilt of her previous works. There is a line about Helen and Hecuba that is right out of A SCOTTISH LORD. It's a good line but, unfortunately, you can only use it once. Alexandra reminds me of Catriona from THE REBELLIOUS WARD and the obsessive cousin is a complete lift from AN ARRANGED MARRIAGE. If you have read none of these books - you'll enjoy this one, although it's not one of her best. But if you have read the earlier books, I'd advise skipping this one - unless you have a thing for echos.

Summary: Uninvoling characterizations
Review: I love Joan Wolf romances. I find the intensity and depth of feelings expressed by her characters truly unique and impressive. This book was the exception. It was well written and the background story was well thought out, but this was a romance novel and I just absolutely did not like the heroine and hero...I never warmed up to them and as a result, I really didn't care if they got together or not. I found her to be spoiled, shallow and bigoted and to me he lacked charisma. I was really disappointed with this book, but I admit that I will still buy Ms Wolf's next book without hesitation.

Summary: Terribly Disappointed
Review: I love Joan Wolf's books, but this was a huge disappointment. It was nothing like her other books. This was a nothing but a formula romance. I find it hard to believe she wrote this, as it is so bad and so different from her other books. There was no character development; both the hero and heroine were shallow and uninteresting. I hope her next book isn't like this one!

Summary: No all that bad.
Review: I've never read a Joan Wolf book before, therefore I had nothing to gauge it by. I liked the book. The idea of someone wanting to marry for love is quaint but I can't fault her either. Just because someone is handsome don't mean you have to sleep with them, there are some really good looking guys that are so wrapped up in themselves they don't have time for anyone else.

A lot of people married for convenience not for love. And given the option to marry and get rich or not marry and remain poor, I'd choose married in a minute. The coming together of the two is what makes the book and a little suspense makes the book interesting.

I don't understand all the complaints about the book, I've read plenty of bad, gosh awful books before and this is not one.

Summary: No all that bad.
Review: Someday Soon by Joan Wolf is definitely not an easy book to read. It contains chemistry, excitement, and intrigue, but also some heart breaking turn of events that one does not really know what to feel about. However, I am giving it 4 stars because the book's premise - the impossible conditions of Alexandra's father's will - provided some predictable but exciting and explosive encounter between the hero and the heroine. I did get quite annoyed with the way Niale was treating Alexandra toward the end, but given his circumstances, I thought his behavior was reasonalbe.
