Rating: Summary: Star: Main character (M.S?) Review: I first bought this book about two weeks ago, and since I reckoned Danielle Steel's books are decent and all right compared to other books I read, I thought I was going to like Star. And yeah, I did...for about the first three pages. The plot's decent enough. BUT. Yes, BUT. Throughout the entire story, all I kept reading was "Oh, she's such a nice girl." "Oh, she's such a pretty girl" "Oh, she's so innocent she could blah blah blah." Which pretty makes it hard for me to enjoy the book when my mind clearly rings out by the likes of MARY SUE!!! Crystal has an amazing voice, she's so sweet it's just..., Crystal is sooooo beautiful she attracts every single men nearby (or if not, they simply gawk at her), she has a terrible past (hints that she's a Mary Sue), and I could go ON forever! But that's just me, and that's my opinion of the book. These are NOT facts. But because I LIKE Danielle Steel, I'm going to try out another one of her books.
Rating: Summary: It's a Keeper Review: I loved the story line. The book takes a girl, Crystal Wyatt,(around 12 years old)from the time she is being reared on a ranch in Northern California all the way through her life until she is about 28 years of age. Her life takes several turns that include victories and defeats, disappointments and rewards. It shows her strength that makes it possible for her to "bounce back" when others would be defeated. Crystal loves the land upon which she grew up. Her and her father made many memories during her childhood. He knew how much the land meant to her when it didn't mean that much to anyone else in the family. Crystal is rewarded for this in the end. I will agree with other critics that DS repeated herself often and I got the message that Crystal was beautiful about half way through the book. It became redundant to keep saying how beautiful she was. I felt like the author was afraid the reader would forget how attractive her main character was. But, I still recommend the book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Redundant, Redundant, Redundant.... Review: I think this book had a great plot. And that's about it as far as greatness goes. I don't prefer her writing style. While reading through, it's hard to tell what character's feelings are being conveyed as she changes character thought in mid paragraph. I would rather hear one chapter from one character's point of view. I think that she tries too hard to get her point across by saying the same thing but in different ways. You can see it page after page. Crystal needed to get out of town. Crystal needed money first. Crystal needed to graduate, but she needed to get out of town. You get the point just by having it written once! Is there a word quota she was trying to achieve, hence the same sentences being thrown around? I think it was just plain over written.

Rating: Summary: This Is An Awesome Book!!!!! Review: I watched to movie before i read the book, which helped me to picture the people and the scenes. Even though this book is not true it gives a since of comfort and relaxation, that sometimes things work out for the best. No matter who came between Spencer and Crystal something always brought them back together. this is a true example of the classic love story and i love it. i have read this book 6times in 2months so i would suggest it to anyone that enjoys getting pleasure out of a book. It also gives hope to people who are in love with someone older that one day age won't matter just the pure satisfaction of love. Good Job Danielle
Rating: Summary: Too boring.... Review: In my opinion i thought this book was a little boring. No excitement at all. For example, all i heard in this book was how attractive and beautiful Crystal was. I think that was mentioned in every chapter. It took me over a week to finish this book because i didnt feel like reading it no more. It was the same thing over and over again. I would not recommend this book. Also had a boring ending.
Rating: Summary: Star is hardly the word. Review: The settings are perfectly all right. The situations that the main character has landed herself in are plot devices that many an author had undoubtedly used - but this is forgiven when they are crafted into the storyline creatively and we forget they are not, well, cliches. The thickness of the book suggests it should be a good read once you snuggle in bed. All right, I admit, I am grasping at straws for Star's positive points. You see, in this book, there is a flaw that you might disregard as insignificant, but to me, it is the primary reason why I could not enjoy this book as I had with countless books written by other authors. The main heroine is despicable. You might argue, why does this deserve a one-star rating? Because whenever I take my time to read the book, I want to sympathize with the characters and *especially* the main character, who I will be following throughout the whole book. Sadly, in Star's case, it is only the contrary that happens. Theoretically, one who read the book would claim this description is absolutely far-fetched. One would claim she is a tragic heroine with a dark and troubled past, even more so when she is raped by a relation. One would claim she ran into the big world with only herself to survive. If she had any bad points in her character, then the book made sure not to stress on them. The book paints her to be a matryr, like some reviewers have pointed out. This is evident from the moment you turned the first page. We are meant to sympathize and feel with her character, and I'm sure a whole lot did, but for me, it does nothing more than to make me smile and think about Steel's other heroines and whether or not they have made cameos in disguise. Of course, this is only the first few chapters so I am more than willing to give the book a chance to develop her character more. The book progressed on, and there was nothing remote about her that changed. It takes a likable character to get absorbed into a story like that, and she is no likable character. Her portrayal as the beautiful woman who captured the hearts of everything that moves is exasperating, tenfolds more when the book kept stressing it continuously up to the point when I actually took out my temper on my cat, the poor soul. In this new world she is in, help is delivered readily. I can tell you, from my experience, that there is a fine line between fantasy and reality. But of course, this is a book - anything could happen as the author wishes it to be. It is hard to enjoy the rest of the book when it is revolved around this heroine. I would think staring blankly at a moss-painted wall would offer more enticement than listening to other side characters moan about her smooth beauty. Side characters that have potential to be more but, unfortunately, never explored deeper, I might add. What else is there to say about them, when all they did was play the roles of the heroine's helplers and marvel at her weak frame? John Grisham's creations are a marvel. Sidney Sheldon's heroines jump into the most unlikely situations, but they are likable. Nora Roberts might be wordy but her leads are tolerable. Nicholas Sparks fall into those categories. Danielle Steel's other books might've been bestsellers, from what I've seen, but reading Star or well, Princess Diaries, I'm sure it's quite evident how I feel about the book.
Rating: Summary: Exactly the same story Review: This book is exactly the same story as American Star written by Jackie Collins, that doesn't mean that this book is better or vice versa, the only thing is that if you already read American Star, don't waste your time with this one. This book is the typical love story, at first Crystal and Spencer meet, then the problems begin and keep going on until God says: from now on everything will be fine, and everything is fine. Nevertheless, the book will keep you reading page after page and willing to know what will happen in the next page. The story of Crystal in Hollywood is the typical one, the problem is that many people like that kind of life, sincerely I don't like it and I think that is a pity that men deal with women like personal things.
Rating: Summary: Left in Disbelief Review: This book spawns some of the most annoying characters ever made. Poor Crystal, she grows up unloved in the boonies of Colorado. Of course she is unloved because she is stunningly beautiful. How many times has this already been done before? At age 14, Crystal meets Spencer, and it is love at first sight. This book continues by revolving around all their chance encounters, followed by brief interludes where Spencer begs his wife for a divorce like a spoiled little girl, and Crystal gets beat up regularly. Both of them avoid getting together because they are thinking of each others happiness. The matyr thing gets old after about the 3rd page
Rating: Summary: A Story of Love at First Sight! Review: This book started out slowly and I must admit that I was turned off somewhat in the beginning by the fact that Crystal was so young. I am so glad I read on and gave the book a chance, it is one of the most inspiring stories about a love that is destined to be. I have read dozens of Danielle Steele's books, this to me is by far the sweetest story that she has told! By the end of the book you will feel that you yourself are Crystal ....and you will not want the story to end ... Two thumbs up!
