Summary: A book most worthy of your precious reading time
Review: After reading his short story in I knew I would want to read his other books. He has this way of interweaving humor in his stories. Man Most Worthy is the first full length book I've read by Mr. Major's and I was not disappointed.

John Sebastian vowed to make sure he would never have to struggle after growing up in poverty in Newark, New Jersey. He is a successful business man and even though he has everything he could want materially, and he has a beautiful younger girlfriend named Scent, he realizes he is missing something. What he is missing is the one woman he really loved, but let go many years ago. That woman would be Josephine Flowers Prescott. Josephine is a Vice Principal of a school and married to Darrien Prescott. Darrien is the superintendent of a rich school district, and he is very concerned with image. So concerned he is always thinking about what his peers will think about Josephine working in such a poor school district. He feels that Josephine should get a job in his district. He is also always bothering Josephine about her being slightly overweight. Josephine is eager to have a baby, but her husband keeps putting if off. When John finds out how quickly Josephine moved on after their break up he wonders if she is truly happy, and seeks to find out. John Sebastian is used to getting what he wants, and he will not take no for an answer in his pursuit of Josephine. He wants to correct the wrongs of the past, and earn Josephine's trust, friendship and most importantly her love.

This book is a must read. The love scenes in this book are super hot, and he has some really positive male role models in this book. Mr. Duke is one of those positive male role models. This book I felt was not predictable, and there are some great pot twists in this book that will really surprise you. First question you will have is "Well she is married, so how on earth will John get this woman back? She has moved on, there is no way she will look back. Or will she?" Read the book to find out!!! You will not be disappointed.

Summary: A Man Most Worthy..is definitely a Most Worthy Read!
Review: All I can say is this book is such a refreshing, pleasurable, entertaining, and most adventurous read. All of the characters from the irresistible John, gorgeous Jules, dynamic Gloria, sophicated Josephine and the wise Mr. Duke made you want to just reach out and grab them!!!

Mr. Major's writing is down to earth, comical, thought-provoking, and sometimes make you wanna holler all at the same time. This book is a serious page turner that requires you to read the book from start to finish all in one sitting. I read the book in one day. There is always something going on!

The relationship shared between Jules, John and Mr. Duke is so special and it makes you feel as if you wish all of our young Black men had a Mr. Duke in their lives.

Mr. Major you deserve 10 stars for this one! I would love to see a sequel focusing on Jules and Gloria's story. I have always enjoyed your writing but I must say I think that this is one of your best works!! I am heading back to the bookstore to purchase A Family Affair. I was delighted to have my hometown of Plainfield mentioned in your book. I love Plainfield as well as Newark, NJ! You are the best!!!

May God bless you to continue to write such real to life stories with such lovable characters!

Summary: first - time read
Review: Good book. Easy to relate to characters and develop quick like and dislike of them. Not one dimensional - great character flaws.

Summary: Excellent Love Story
Review: Great Love story. I listened to this book on tape, and was very impressed. This is the first book by Marcus Major that I have experience, and I am ready to read more. I was so impressed with this book, I could imagine this happening to me!

Summary: Can't get past the raunchy language
Review: I have read Mr. Major's work before (Good People's; Got to be real anthology). And in the other works I was able to get past some of the language. However, with A Man Most Worthy, I am really having a hard time getting through. I keep getting hit with the "D" word and the "P" word throughout the book (at times I am reminded of a high-schooler throwing these words around because he thinks its cool). It seems as though every page has some sort of profanity on it.
I think a book about Black Love and Black folks loving each other without cheapening it with these terms might be a little more refreshing.
It is unfortunate because he really does make me want to find out what happens with the characters, but I am so offended by the EXESSIVE use of profane words and descriptions that add absolutely nothing to the story. Don't get me wrong, I did not expect there to be no profanity, but too much is too much!
I really like Mr. Major's stories, but if you have a sensitivity to exessive raunchy language, steer clear of this one.

Summary: A major well written work
Review: Only thirty-six, John Sebastian has everything going especially with his North Carolina based chemical safety systems business. John has made millions with his firm and expands into New Jersey where he also relocates. However, in spite of his success, which includes those with the opposite sex, John feels something is missing in his life. John likes his current girlfriend Scent, but he knows that neither shares deep abiding feelings for one another.

John seeks some solace by donating computers to poverty stricken Lyons Avenue Elementary School in Newark. It is there that his former lover the married Josephine Prescott works as the vice principal. When John and Josephine meet for the first time in years, both realize what is missing in their lives as she shares his feeling of discontent. Josephine's husband Darren cares only of image as the superintendent of an affluent suburban school district. When it comes to Josephine, Darren demands she lose twenty pounds while John wants to share spoonfuls of love with her forever. Besides their respective insignificant other, John and Josephine know that love might not be enough to overcome the tragedy that ended their relationship the first time around.

A MAN MOST WORTHY is a fabulous relationship drama that focuses on never settling for less than your personal best. The story line moves forward rather quickly as the characters come across as genuine especially when water cooler politics intercede and at time supersede common sense, smart business and personal interactions. With this novel and other tales like FOUR GUYS AND TROUBLE, this author GOT TO BE REAL as a major author of modern day relationship tales.

Summary: Pages Readers Group Reviews "A Man Most Worthy"
Review: Pages Readers group enjoyed this heartwarming story about friendship and love. A Man Most Worthy by Marcus Major is a funny, smart novel that details the lives and evolving relationships of old friends and lovers. While we would have liked the author to share more about the transformation that occurred within the main character John Sebastian, we still appreciated the wit with which Majors describes the conversations and emotions between his characters. Majors manages to "tell it like it is" with a style that keeps the reader entertained from beginning to end.

Summary: Almost worthy
Review: This book is very vivid, and the words he uses to capture you are beautiful as well, but the book itself did nothing for me. It took too long to get to all of the secrets and through all of the denials, and the end was too far away.

Basically this is a book based on before, after, and once again. 2 childhood friends hook back up when John Sebastian moves back to New Jersey in a quest to build another business, as well as win back his one and only love. Jules Anthony, his close friend and and their mentor Mr.Duke knew that although it had been 7 long years since John had loved or been loved completely they simply let him stumble while he played "house" with some chicky named Scent (short for Milicent) whose really only in it for the money (which she does get!) Okay Gloria, a propserous business savvy sister with that tell it like it is and has more dents in her headboard than the norm loves her girl Josephine, but doesn't understand how her girl let's her boozhee husband who doesn't make her release hold such a power over her! Okay Josephine in retrospect hates her boss, loves her
job, loves her marriage, hates her husband.

The most special thing about this book I must sayare the words that Marcus utilized.

This is the first book that I've read by Marcus and I wasn't
impressed, but I am willing to try at least once more.

Summary: Wonderful story...
Review: This is a wonderful story about love, friendship and faith.  John Sebastian has built a multimillion dollar security empire, lives lavishly and doesn't hesitate to spend money on his woman.  However, the woman he gave his heart to seven years previously walked out on him.  Why?  Read the book!

Marcus Major has undoubtedly hit home again with this novel, which highlights faith, trust, and friendship.  (Not to mention some earth-moving, tastefully written, love-making fests!).  This novel is sure to capture your heart. -JN
