Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Insufferable
Review: A spoiled, petulant woman and a manipulative man...is it the heroine's parents, or the heroine and the hero? Apparently it doesn't much matter. The only reason I'm giving this two stars is so that I can give a single star to its sequel, Besieged.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Better characterizations are needed in new B. Small book
Review: After being somewhat dissapointed by the quaint, but lackluster THE INNOCENT, I had high hopes for BEDAZZLED. As a hugh fan of the Skye O'Malley books and many of Small's other families like the Leslies' and the Wyndhams', I was expecting a wildly romantic story in that tradition. India was a spoiled brat, with none of the charm of her Grandmother Velvet in THIS HEART OF MINE. By the time you warmed to her a character, you were at the end of the book. Jasmine aparently lost all her spirit and common sense. James Leslie was a pompous self-serving whiner. Just because their romance was not the focus of this book is no reason to so drastically alter their personas'

The strongest character in this book was Fortune. I hope Ms. Small can recapture her love of the characters she created for this family in the next installment. On another note, I thought the death of Janet Skye was really a low blow to the readers. Yes, I realize it was common to lose children young, but this is a romantic, historical FANTASY!

Summary: So disappointed!!
Review: After Darling Jasmine, which I loathed, I wasn't expecting to enjoy Bedazzled. Imagine my happy surprise when I found this to be a most enjoyable read! Okay, sure, the heroine's a petulant pain in the rear, but then again this is what makes her a "character". I gleaned from how the book was written that Small was somehow thinking of slightly parodizing herself. Most of all, I thought this was a good, straightforward story, lighter on the erotica and more centered on the plot.

Summary: Another harem - *yawn*
Review: Deceived, Darling Jasmine and the Innocent may have been pretty bad, but Bedazzled sinks the series to the ultimate low. Bertrice Small is the only romance author I will read, and her writing is usually breathtaking. However -

I COULDN'T MAKE MYSELF FINISH THIS BOOK! Reading it was a chore not entertainment. Flat scenarios, cookie-cutter characters, 2 dimensional storylines. This is absolutely the WORST book she's written. I honestly didn't care what happened to India. If I'd gotten as far as her child being kidnapped, I guess I'd have finished it just to see what happened to her baby. I'm glad I dropped it before then.

Skye O'Malley must be rolling in her grave to know her series has sunk so low!

I'll try Besieged, but if it stinks this bad I'm giving up on the Kensington / Skye's Legacy books. Bertrice has one due out in july - for this loyal fan, that next book is Small's last chance.

Summary: Just ignore most of the other reviews of this book
Review: I have been an avid Bertrice Small fan since "Adora" came out so many years ago. Unlike these other reviewers, who seem to be come-lately readers to Ms. Small's romance novels, I understand that her books all have a certain element of similarity - a beautiful heroine, an exotic land, an equally exotic lover, and surprises regarding the land, the lover, the heroine, or all. This book is not a disappointment. It reads easily and quickly draws you into the world of India Lindley. While not on par with Small's masterpieces (Adora, Skye O'Malley, Enchantress Mine), "Bedazzled" still entertains. Words of note: best to avoid this novel until you've read all the other Skye O'Malley books. You'll be somewhat lost if you haven't read the others first. Also, the dialog at India's first meeting with the bey seems somewhat stiff -- again, this is due to Ms. Small's formula for a historical romance, and is easily overlooked.

Summary: So disappointed!!
Review: I usually love Ms. Smalls books. I have been avidly reading them for sometime now. However this storyline is getting quite old. Frankly I am getting a little disgusted how these women from the O'Malley series put up with harems and sharing their men with others. Most of her characters have spit and vineger, however India is just plain stupid and silly. She is not what I would call a firey young woman, but an incrediably shallow, self-centered twit with the intelligance of a nat!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: I was impressed when I got this new book, and am looking forward to Ms Small's new book. My heart went out to India when she had to give up life as she knew it and wanted it, yet she went on to have a wonderful relationship with Caynan Ries. Then I felt like crying when she was torn from the man she loved and forced to give up her child by Jemmie Leslie. Which I thought was a really low blow to young India. Yet I was ecstatic when finally she and her true love were reunited atlast, along with there child. i woul;d reccommend this book to anyone. True to the legacy of Skye, India stood up well with the other women of her infamous family. I applaud these women.

Summary: Typical plot line, but still a good story
Review: This was probably one of my least favorites by Bertrice Small. I am usually very pleased with her books. Her writing style is as always very well done. Her characters are lively and vibrant. Her descriptions are amazingly detailed. I did not care for the character of India Lindley at all. I also did not care for James and Jasmine in this book either. However, I did read this book again (as I usually do with Bertrice Small books) and realized that it wasn't quite as bad as I originally thought. Despite the disappointment with a couple of the characters, I was still enthralled and enchanted by Mrs. Small's writing overall and while angry about some of the occurances in the book, I was nonetheless pulled into the story. For those of you who are die hard Bertrice Small fans, take a second look before you give up on this book altogether.
