Rating: Summary: Love this book!! Review: I can always count on a Rachel Gibson book to put a smile on my face. I loved the hero, Rob. He was hot hot hot. I loved the Fumanchu mustache, and the scenes between him and his daughter were heartbreaking. Kate was the perfect heroine, smart and funny. I loved visiting Gospel
again. Thank you Rachel Gibson!!
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: I dont know where all these bad reviews are coming from because this book was great. No, it is not like other books she wrote. I have read all her books. Why people want all books to be just like the last one they read escapes me. Plots and storylines are suppose to change, otherwise whats the point?
The Trouble with Valenties day starts off a lil slow. We meet Kate and Rob in the bar where Kate tried to pick Rob up, but he turns her down. Now, we have the domino effect of that meeting when Rob comes back into town and him and Kate meet again and he starts to realize that Kate is not what he thought. On with the show to see these two come together whlie batteling all the way. Lots of chemistry and fireworks. They have a good romance and so is the secondary romance of Grace and Kates grandfather.
I dont think Rachel painted the town in a cookey light. It came across as a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business and loved to gossip.
There was a few things that I did not agree with, such as Rob cheating on his wife and some of the things he did to Kate. But I think it falls into more of how people can change.
I dont have to agree with every element of a book to think it is great. Rob does not live the entire book in his Hummer, he just has one and ya, even drives it. But he is out of it plenty.
This is a very entertaining book. It is funny and has a good story line. I read it in one day, then went back and read it again. Highly recommended, enjoy!!
Rating: Summary: This Chick Needs an EDITOR!!! Review: I have read every Rachael Carson book. Always bought them without giving it a second thought. Well, "The Trouble with Valentine's Day" will have me giving future Rachael Carson books a second, third and fourth thought.
Folks, this was just plain bad writing made even worse by the lack of either a proof reader or an editor. I got it the first time she described Rob as having "too much testosterone", I got it the second, fourth and TENTH time she said it too! I also understood that he had a Fu Manchu and a soul patch (ick). Again, caught it the first time round, didn't need to be told over and over and OVER.
Here is a perfect example of how sloppy the writing in this book is. On page 196, 10th paragraph "She moved into the house and shut the door behind her. She felt a little flushed as she set the tray on the counter and hung up her coat".... Page 197, paragraph 2 " Kate set the hors d'oeuvre plate on the counter, then hung her coat by the back door"... ONE PARAGRAPH separates these two passages!!! For heavens' sake, I expect more than that from a published writer!
Ms. Carson, if your heart is not in it, save us BOTH the agony. Please.
Rating: Summary: Not great, not horrible Review: I was really looking forward to this book, since I absolutely loved three of Gibson's previous books and liked the other four. This one falls into the "like" category-with reservations. First of all, I agree with other reviewers about the mistakes. It's ridiculous that the book could make it to the stores with that many errors! After a while I found myself looking for them just for fun. But putting the errors aside, I was mostly entertained by the story. I also agree with the reviewers who question Gibson's idea of a "hot" leading man. A fu manchu, a soul patch and a humongous tattoo wouldn't normally do it for me. I guess I'd have to meet Rob to understand his sexiness. As is typical in Gibson's and other romances, Rob is a "slut." It's a little hard to work up a good crush on a man who wrecked his marriage by cheating on his wife. But if you believe he's a changed man, Rob does seem fairly likable now. He's happy just running his store and fishing in his time off. Kate is an okay heroine, but nothing about her really makes me like or relate to her. The romance between her grandfather and Rob's mother was sweet, I guess, but didn't do much for me. As a reader of all of Gibson's books, the one thing I really enjoyed was the way she mentioned characters from "See Jane Score" (yummy Luc Martineau) and "True Confessions" (Sheriff Taber, the Aberdeens, Dixie, etc.). That made the book just a little more fun. Overall, though it's not her best work, I'd still recommend this book to friends, especially ones who already like Rachel Gibson.
Rating: Summary: A great book Review: I've waited a year for this book and I was not disappointed. From the first page to the last, The Trouble With Valentines Day is a fast paced roller coaster ride. I can always count on a Rachel Gibson book to give me real characters with real problems who talk with real people. This book is a laugh out loud funny. One of my favorite line in the book is when Kate asks Rob to warn her if he's going to write his name in the snow. And the scene in the grocery store-very hot.
I live in Montana and was at the Rachel Gibson signing. She was very gracious and charming. It's embarrassing to see the other review from a person in Montana and read the cheap personal shots at Ms. Gibson. Not everyone who lives here is so petty.
Rating: Summary: TIRED and full of errors! Review: Judging by the author's picture on the inside back cover, it seems that she wasn't thrilled with this book either. What expression is she wearing? It looks like a lame smirk. Having just encountered the author at a book signing I was impressed by the fact that she took no pleasure in meeting fans and she seemed barely civil. I have previously purchased all her books and enjoyed the earlier stories, but after reading this book and meeting the unfriendly author I will never purchase another one of Rachel Gibson's books.
The characters were hideous and the Rob I pictured in my mind could have been a member of "The Village People." The plot followed the same pattern as her other stories with no originality.
I found several errors in the book. #1 Kate wore a dark green Costco sweater that "matched her eyes" and yet her eyes are brown in the rest of the book. #2 Rob helps his mother into her Bronco, but later her Blazer is parked in her garage. #3 "Heckety-buck" is spelled two different ways. With such shoddy writing, I was surprised not to see "there" "their" and "they're" misused!
This book was an insult to her fans. The characters were poorly developed, the story poorly constructed, and the entire experience was tired!
Rating: Summary: Back to Gospel for fun and romance Review: Kate Hamilton is a former P.I. from Vegas, and unlucky in love. Her last relationship broke up the day she thought they might get engaged. Now that man is marrying someone he has only known for a couple of months. When a career tragedy strikes she packs up her bags and travels to Gospel, where her grandfather owns a grocery, trying to take time to reflect on her life. Along the way she stops at a local ski resort to spend the night as the weather prevents her from going further. Of course it just happens to be Feb. 14, and she decided to go out on a limb and solicits the hottie sitting next to her, who turns her down with vigor.
Rob Sutter no longer skates for the Chinooks. A one night stand, while he was married, led to his being stalked and shot 3 times. This shooting not only ended his career and marriage but has also made him determined to not have one night stands and to never marry again. Rob owns the local sporting good store in Gospel that opened the previous summer.
When Rob and Kate are thrown together by their situation in Gospel things start to get interesting. Kate tries to keep her distance, manly due to her acute embarrassment. But, in the end the two wind up together. But, when Rob wants to be together but not marriage Kate bolts. She is devastated; she thinks that yet again she is being dumped for not being "enough".
There is a secondary love story between Kate's Grandfather and Rob's Mother that adds some light romance to the book.
If you want a fun fast paced romance story this one is for you. If you are a stickler for all punctuation being correct and want a lot of details of the scenery and areas then you should avoid this one. I rated this 4 stars due to the fun dialogue and the overall story, it made me laugh. I like how the main character keeps trying to sneak jalapeno jelly into people's lives.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Read! Review: The Trouble with Valentine's Day is a fun read! If you are a fan of Rachel Gibson's, you know that the story will be entertaining, and have interesting characters. I personally like to read books that are written how we talk, even if that means that we "don't talk so good". I do not critique a fun read for political correctness and great grammer, those people should read a different type of book.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: This is my first Rachel Gibson and I've now orders all her other books. I can't wait to read them. This is exactly the kind of romance I like to read. Hot hero and fun heroine. The second romance in the book between Stanley and Grace was sweet and showed the difference between the generations. Nice touch.
As for typos, so? Every paperback book I read has a few typos. Some of them are kind of funny. I wish they didn't have typos but they do. Nothing to get all worked up about. And if you're going to write a review complaining about typos in a book, you should at least make sure your review is free of typos. It's Gibson. Not Carson.
Rating: Summary: A winner!!!! Review: This was just the book I needed to pull me out of my winter blaa. This is such a fun read. The town of Gospel is a riot and the lovey story is fabulous.
