Description:

The year 1981 gets off to a rough start for Marti Hirsch, who returns to amateur sleuthing when her piano-playing lover's partner, Vegas lounge singer Donny Barlow, is the prime suspect in the murder of their boss. Marti solves the case much as she did in Last Dance: imagining that she's smarter than everyone around her, she continually gets her condescension flung back in her face when the secrets start coming out--and nothing's the way she had it figured. Some readers may find the plot, which incorporates a Machiavellian college basketball player and a mysterious crime lord with ties to the Afro-Caribbean religion of Santeria, a mite implausible, but Miriam Ann Moore's sophomore effort is, in general, a competently entertaining mystery.
