Summary: Wonderful book!
Review: I have avoided reading romances in general and Christian "romances" in particular as they tend to be insipid. However, the plot of this book by Sharon Gillenwater intrigued me. I found it well written with an interesting plot, well developed characters with whom you could become involved and about whom you cared. Because of this one book, I've since found and purchased most all of her work and generally find them all to be excellent. Some of her early work has covers of which I'm not fond as they are in the fashion of the worldly historical romances of low cut gowns, etc., but so far (I haven't read them all) they are clean and interesting, though the growth of her writing from then to present can certainly be seen.

I would HIGHLY recommend this book and its sequel, Highland Call, to anyone who wants an uplifting, intelligent, and interesting read with a godly courtship and wonderful characters. In this genre of Christian romances, I haven't found any as well done as her books.

Summary: A book that holds interest.
Review: I HAVE TRADITIONALLY BEEN VERY CYNICAL ABOUT HISTORICAL ROMANCES - IMAGES OF BARBARA CARTLAND AND CATHERINE COOKSON TOO READILY SPRUNG TO MIND! HOWEVER, SHARON HAS SURPASSED HERSELF IN "SONG OF THE HIGHLANDS" - I LITERALLY COULD'NT PUT IT DOWN AND HAVE READ IT SEVERAL TIMES. THE PORTRAYAL OF THE MORAY FIRTH IS ACCURATE AND THE FEELINGS AND DOUBTS EXPRESSED WITHIN THE NOVEL GIVE IT A REAL DOWN TO EARTH AND BELIEVABLE QUALITY. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE!I NOW HAVE SEVERAL OF SHARON'S BOOKS AND HAVE JUST PURCHASED ONE MORE. OH JOY!

Summary: Song of the Highlands
Review: I loved this book. Sharon Gillenwater makes the characters alive. You really feel like you know each one. For once there's a romance that is clean. A 14 year old could read it without guilt, but that doesn't mean that it lacks romantic parts. Plus it's not all mushy huggy kissy. There's adventure! Plenty of it, just when you think everyone's safe and the story can wind down something else happens and You're living on the edge again. You can't put this book down until you finish (even then you have a hard time). I'm adicted, I can't wait to read more of Ms. Gillenwater's books.

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: Song of the Highlands is a spectacular book filled with adventure, romance, and suspense. I have read books of all kinds and I must say this is one that I come back to time and time again. Ms. Gillenwater develops the characters in such a way that you feel like they are your good friends. You care about what happens to each and every one of them. Unlike secular romance, Song of the Highlands enforces good morals; but unlike many other Christian novels, the relationships are not dry and boring. The characters are Christian without being unrealistically good. They struggle with right and wrong just as each of us do. The book is well written so you can follow it easily and you don't get characters mixed up. I highly recommend it for anyone and everyone looking for a great read. (don't forget to read Highland Call after you finish Song of the Highlands... I recommend you buy both becaused you're going to want to keep up with your new "friends")

Summary: One of my all-time favorites
Review: There are only a very few select books that I have read more than once. I would consider this book among one of my all-time favorites. I have read it through about 5 times, and will surely do so again...at least once every year I read it. I don't know...there is just something about this book that I am completely in love with. I would...and have...recommended it to many people.

Summary: A moving and challenging work.
Review: This was the first of Ms. Gillenwater's books I have read, and I was impressed with her ability to portray characters sincerely devoted to serving Christ and to honoring Him in their relationships with the opposite sex. For years I read secular romances, shunning Christian romances for fear that they would be sappy, boring, and unrealistic. To my delight, I found the characters in this book to be very real and the story to be every bit as passionate, humorous, and interesting as any other I have read. I highly recommend it and look forward to reading other books by Ms. Gillenwater.
